Went ahead and let my mechanic do a plug swap and drivetrain fluid change. I know, I could do it myself, but part of it is that I live in a small town and my wrench is an old friend. He's been wrenching on my vehicles for almost 2 decades. When I got a brand new Taco two years ago it kind of shut him out, I'd been rockin' beaters for a while.

So I told him, I hear you're going to be removing half NGK and half Denso. To which he replied with a an expression that might be translated as "poppycock". I told him that's what I'm hearing, new 4.0 taco motors ship with half and half. And yes, that's what he found.

More interesting was his observations of the driveline fluids. Keep in mind, I use 4wd very often. I live in the mountains and I'm an adventure boy. So he drained the T-case and the oil was like new. The rear diff he said looked like you'd expect a 30K drain to look. Discolored but OK. The front diff he said was nasty and nearly black. What do you all say, normal? Anything to worry about? I may start changing the front diff's oil at 15K...

I'm guessing the half ngk were passenger side?

    $200!!!

In canada that service is 0ver $700, $347 just for the plug change.

For those that have a 201* tacoma (mine is 2015) how long did it actually take you to do the job yourself (spark plugs)?
I have heard numbers of around 1 - 1.5 hrs... If so how in the world is the dealer charging 3-3.5 hrs.
from the video's this doesnt look difficult at all (try the rear plugs on a Chrysler voyager with 3.0 V6.
Easiest one was actually my 2004 honda odyssey, nothing in the way and even though its transverse i did the plugs in 30 minutes..
