My daughter bumped a parked car in her apartment bldg. parking lot. Broke her headlight but that about the worst. She lives in Virginia, does she have to report this to the police? She did leave a note but didn't call the police.

I would blame it on the parked car but that's just me.

I think as long as she left her info for the other party then no police report is required unless she totally destroyed the other car.

Hopefully they just get in touch with her and resolve it easily. Just never know about some ppl these days tho. Good luck

I believe leaving a note with contact information is sufficient. Lived in VA a while back and dont recall anything more would be needed, but it has been a while. Best bet would be to just call the non-emergency number and double check.

Not sure about where you VA, but in TX the cops get annoyed when you call and won't even come out when it is on private property. - even shopping parking lots they won't come out .... unless there is a dispute between the two party's and they are both present. Even then they are only there to keep the peace and provide the "blue card" so you can tell your insurance comp. you "reported" it.

As know one was there, leaving a note with info should work. But she should contact her insurance company and fill them in with the info as soon as possible. I hope she took pic of the other car as well as hers, just in case. I was backed into just a short time ago. Only bumper damage on my tacoma, I contacted my insurance company and let them settle it with the other insurance company for repairs, new bumper and hardware was all that was needed.

    From the Virginia DMV:

If the accident resulted in any fatalities, injuries, or damages exceeding $1,000, it is mandatory to inform the local Virginia police, sheriff or highway patrol.

    You're good to go.

No need to report to police or insurance company, unless other party notifies you they want to proceed. Sometimes the other party doesn't care, and it's no big deal.... why admit to something with the insurance company since they'll try everything to screw you over anyways

Honestly, I would think since it's in an apartment complex, she could go to the main office and ask if they have on file who's car that was, and then talk to the owner.

All is well with a note except if the owner and his SO were getting down in the back seat, out of sight and now claim two back injuries through their lawyer.

She still hasn't heard from the owner. There is a DOD sticker on the car. Hopefully they're not deployed and won't see the note for a year!!!

Ive actually been hit and ran in a parking lot a few years back in virginia. I called the police when they hit me, i had there tag number and my s-10 had damage to the rear bumper. I was told that because the damage was less than 2,000$, a hit and run charge could not be filed. (I really didnt understand that). That being said, i would probably let atleast someone know, like the condo association. This way if something came up you can atleast prove that you did try to right the issue.

When I lived in VA I lifted this ladies car up on two wheels with my truck by side swiping it, messing up the doors pretty good. I'm dumb but I left a note.
She called me and was blown away I even left a note, she said no worries on the car, I never heard from her again.
