    That thing in the pic is some kind of control module. The fuel pump resistor is the finned aluminum box in front of the battery.

    Likely a resistor / control unit for the air injection pump. Like stated cap off / insulate the exposed wires and you should be good until its repaired.

    I like the tarp idea - hadn't seen that before, though the critters probably can still chew through it.

    The Prius on the right has the right idea with the tarp and chicken wire. Belt + suspenders FTW
