I just picked up a base 2002 Tacoma 4x4. I'd like to upgrade the factory am/fm/cassette radio to one of the factory am/fm/cassette/cd radios I see randomly listed in buy/sell.

Will the cd radio just plug in & be ready to go? Same plugs on the back of both radios?
(Is there a code I need to get with the radio too?)

(preemptively, cd/cassette makes more sense for me than something modern.)

TIA to any old-timers who may have done this back in the day.

if you get the cd player that is separate from the am/fm radio, the cd player will plug into the am/fm radio. if its all 1 piece then you need to make sure that the connections that are in the truck are the same as the one that is being sold. if someone was trying to sell one and had a potential buyer I would think that they would be willing to take a picture of it for you to see

I'm used to smaller automobile manufacturers who use 1 part for several applications. I was hoping Toyota had 2 self contained versions of the entertainment center that shared the same wiring harness/plugs across all versions of the vehicle. Sounds like my hopes are unrelated to Toyota reality. I left Toyota in 1990, so I've got a big learning curve to catch back up.

Sounds like I'll have to pull open the lower dash twice, once to figure it out, and a second time to change the radio - unless anyone knows for sure if there's only one radio harness across applications?

    Thanks.
