I was wondering if anyone with the 2.7L 2TRFE runs 0W-30 instead of 0W-20. I have read that 0W-20 was spec'd specifically for CAFE requirements and originally the engine was spec'd for 5W-30 for longevity. I want to make the switch but don't know if it will mess anything up like VVT-i.

So does anyone run 0W-30? Does it screw with the VVT-i?

I ran 0w30, 5w20, 0w20, 5w30 in my 2TR - no noticeable difference with any flavor and certainly not enough to affect VVTI.

Sold the truck with 100K and went V6 - my needs changed.

I still see it running around town and it's had a considerably harder life with the new owner.

I have used 5w-30 in mine for about 40,000 miles with no issues. Get excellent gas mileage, too.
