I finished my retrofit (complicated due to previous aftermarket nav system and Amp) everything works great and the 2014 stereo is playing nice with all of my steering wheel controls and the LOC for the aftermarket amp.

My only issue is that I live in Atlanta and we have HD radio everywhere but I'm yet to get the weather and traffic updates. When I try to manually load the data it comes up and says its updating it but nothing is ever displayed and no error is returned. My HD radio reception is fine.

Any thoughts or anyone else with this issue? I don't really see how it could be related to the retrofit since HD radio works fine.

My unit is the Entune Plus, not the Premium with the mobile phone interface.

I thought the home screen weather updated using a sat antenna shared for XM radio service? My Entune Plus works this way. I could be wrong .... just thinking out loud.

Hmm, well mine came straight out of a 2014 but definitely doesn't have an XM satellite antenna, I'm not sure WHY it would need the XM antenna since it's an HD Radio service and it receives HD radio signal over the air without issue (doesn't mean it doesn't though!).

I know on the Entune PREMIUM system it gets the weather app through the data link with your cell phone (if you're using the app).

Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Yes. Radio is broadcast over the air. But is weather ? That's the question. I think mine would use the sat antenna to determine my location for the local weather. I had Entune Plus and no smartphone app. I still got the weather displayed on the screen for my location.

Here's the breakdown as I understand it.
    - Entune Basic
    - Entune Plus (weather/XM)
    - Entune Audio Premium with GPS Nav (weather/XM/App Suite/GPS)
    - Entune Audio Premium with JBL Audio and with GPS Nav (weather/XM/App Suite/JBL/GPS)

We have the same understanding of the Entune breakdowns (features). Everything I've read until now said it was broadcast over the HD radio signal, the location stuff doesn't seem to be very accurate because of that (it's common to read about people getting weather from cities over 100 miles away). My radio gives no errors and I can even manually choose the weather or traffic and I get a screen indicating it's downloading the information, it's just never displayed. I'm not really sure what role the XM antenna would play in this BUT, I wouldn't be surprised if it was being used. If I can find one I'm going to buy it and install it.

It would be nice to figure it out. When my truck started up this morning it said HD weather not avail. Then it said downloading. And it is often off by 100 miles etc. I am thinking you may be correct also. I simply don't know. Does the manual say anything?

I just started it up and It still says downloading... Please wait... Still waiting and the crappy service that it is would make sense if it's an airwaves service. Takes about 3-4 mins to display.

If it is the radio weather and yours is not downloading. Then u would think its not available in your area?

    Looking forward to the answer.

I did some research and it appears that prior to 2014 the traffic and weather data were coming from XM as part of a 3-year data subscription. I found press releases in 2013 detailing the 2014 Entune System and talking about the weather and traffic data coming from HD radio data services now.

I still would not be surprised though if there was some hardware requirement that is dependent on the XM tuner/antenna in the truck.

We have about 40 HD radio stations in Atlanta and they all come through fine. The only thing I haven't been able to confirm is which (if any) broadcast the HD traffic and weather (my understanding is that they ALL do).

You need the little gps antenna the goes behind the dash to recieve weather and traffic,it can be bought seperate.
