As the title states, I would like to upgrade the sound in 2014 TRD Sport DC, but keep the existing HU. I'm willing to replace the speakers and I have the non JBL HU it appears.

I've read the stickies and searched the forums and this is where the confusion sets in. Some rec putting in a "JL Clear Channel" which is $300+ and does not appear to be in production anymore. Others rec putting a mini amp in behind the stock HU, but I cannot find anyone who has done this.

So, I really like the factory HU and it's integration (BT, steering wheel, etc.) but the sound is terrible. (I've had early 90's landcruisers whose stock stereos were superior to this sound, which really surprised me.) I'd like to upgrade the speakers, but from what I have read, that is really ineffective without getting more power to them, hence the mini amp or "Clear Channel".

So, do the mini amp and replace the speakers? Anyone have parts they'd rec with this setup, or is this pursuit futile? Thanks in advance.

I do not have the JBL. Looking to upgrade the Entune Non-Nav.

Definitely take a look at the link I posted above. That's going to be the best bang for your buck. Literally.

I had a Non-JBL HU by the time I did adapters and tried to make it work it become too much of a pain. Just get a aftermarket HU and you will be much happier.
