does anyone know if my truck from the factory had a different radiator in it?? I bought it from a friend 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 5 speed the radiator hangs down out from under the factory front bumper about 6 inches. It also has the trans cooler built into the bottom of radiator which I don't need. Anyone that can give me a part number or link would be greatly appreciated. I can not find one with the cooler built in. I know Toyota wouldn't have made the truck this way being a 4x4 please help!!!

Yes, the radiator was changed. You have a rad for an automatic. They are bigger, so consider it a win.

An 18 year old should have a new rad anyways. It's cheaper to change them vs. Doing a coolant flush.

I'm guessing you don't have the skid plate anymore? It's supposed to cover the bottom of the rad.

No I don't have the skid plates the DA i bought it from apparently took them off and left then off. He doesn't know anything about vehicles I had to fix all kinds of stuff. Only reason I bought it was absolutely no rust and he bought it brand new in 2000, no wrecks, body has no dents just needs paint.

I'm not gonna judge. Those skid plates are very thin. If you hit something solid, you are still gonna damage shit, weather the skid plate is there or not.

I don't do much wheeling, so I toss mine the first time I change the oil.

No difference in size when you have 4 x4.

2 wheel drive trucks could have 18.75". All 4x4 trucks auto or manual had 20 5/8" rads

The OE 4x4 radiators are different heights between auto and manual. There are at least 2 different shrouds to accommodate the 3 different height cores found between all models.
After market radiators are increasingly coming with the trans cooler, needed or not so as to reduce inventory/production costs. Thus aftermarket application lists compound the confusion with OE offerings.

Jesse of Trails Less Traveled, a respected fabricator, the guy who wrote the book on fitting 35's ran a 4cyl 2wd radiator simply because it ends flush with the bottom of the frame. This was with 35's, 5.29 gears, full armor, flat bed and the aerodynamics of a laundry basket.

The OE man trans 20 5/8 core (middle size) sits just below the frame while the auto sits much further down. The former will allow a custom skid to slope directly back from the front mount instead of needing the initial drop down.

Seen below is an after market skid built to accommodate the 4x4 auto rad. You can see it just under/beyond the hook. It has about 1/2" clearance to the skid. Yellow lines show angle and ground clearance that can be achieved with the 20 5/8 core and a custom skid.
