I'm planning on taking a trip with my son down the Oregon Coast and California for 3 weeks this summer. Will this truck be ok?

My 2014 2.7L 4x4 says 3500 max trailer weight, 350lbs max tongue weight. Trailer brakes required over 1500lbs according to Toyota. I personally wouldn't want to tow with the 2.7L auto, but just my worthless opinion.

2500lbs won't be an issue but you will require trailer brakes. I tow a 3500lbs travel trailer and 20' fishing boat that weights about the same. You shouldn't have any issues. Remember you will be putting the shifter in 3 and not D. Putting the trans in D is overdrive and you don't want to be towing in overdrive. You may want to invest in a trans cooler to protect the transmission.

No issue pulling it out of the water. I've pulled it out in 2 HI and have used 4LO on a steep ramp but it wasn't necessary.

I pulled it for about 3,000 miles through the Rockies last summer. Towing was really only an issue because of the auto trans. I was running two trans coolers and still had to be careful to not overheat the tranny. Running against a headwind in the prairie was also a pain. If the truck had been a manual transmission it would have been much better with the extra gear and not have to worry about trans temps. In normal conditions the truck could easily maintain 65 in third gear (4 speed auto).

Thanks for the reply. You have helped me decide to go for it and get a travel trailer. Last question? Did you also have an oil cooler as well as the transmission cooler.

I wasn't running the oil cooler, really no need. I was running a factory V6 trans cooler and a aftermarket cooler hooked on series. Also you will want to monitor your trans temps. On short trips in my area I didn't have an issue but in the mountain trans temps would rise drastically. Don't worry about revving the 2.7, it's a solid motor and can take the abuse.
