To drain or not to drain, that is the question.

Welk that's part of the question....

So, the other day I took the plastic bed protector off my truck to check the bed for rust (there isn't any, thanks be to the gods) but I noticed the truck bed has two large drain holes stopped with plugs and it occurred to me, should I drill holes in the plastic bed cover to match the ones in the bed?

It's not a big deal I just noticed that with the plastic bed water tends to pool and collect in the bed. The metal seems protected by the plastic but I was just wondering what you all had for opinions.

    Pretty much stock right now
I wouldn't. Water could collect between the liner and the bed, despite the drains, and then rust out the bed. Yes water collects in the liner, but it's not in contact with the bed and will run out the back as soon as you move forward. I sometimes park on an incline to drain the liner and any water that may have seeped under the liner.

Makes sense. Should I open the plugs under the plastic cover, just in case water gets stuck between the bed and plastic?

Couldn't hurt. Def wouldn't drill the liner. It's the reason you don't have rust

I haven't pulled mine off yet. But if the rest of the truck is any indication there won't be any.

Im going to do this soon to check for rust too. Is there anything I should spray on the bed (fluid film etc) prior to reinstalling the liner?

I used PB blaster. It protects against rust and doesn't evaporate so it'll leave a thin film on your bed.
