After my experience at the dealership with the differential recall, I believe there will be a bunch of loaner Tacoma trucks available to buy at a reduced price, because they will have some miles on them. From what I read on here, many trucks (50% fallout rate per my dealer) are not passing the leak check and the dealer is keeping them and offering another vehicle to drive till the parts come in and they can get it fixed. Many people like me, insisted on another truck. Since there are 228,000 trucks being recalled, there should be many used loaners for sale once Toyota ramps up sufficient production of the needed gaskets to decrease the turnaround time.

If you are in the market for a Tacoma and don't mind one with a few hundred miles on it, I believe your day is coming soon for an excellent deal. Just hang on for a while!!

One thing I will say is when you get a loaner or rental people beat the crap out of those cars.

You are probably right with some more used 3rd gens coming, but I don't believe anywhere near the 228k vehicles are effected. And a small percentage of those are probably held.

My dealer says about half are failing and being held....half of 228,000 is 114,000. Wait time on parts is 2 weeks to a month.....

I wouldnt buy a loaner vehicle, even if it is a Tacoma. Especially a pissed off Tacoma owner who has his truck being held for an indefinite time period. I mean that is the perfect oppurtunity to see what the 3rd gen is really made of, its not your truck but you can use it to see what your trucks limits are.

Hmmm, let me buy an abused loaner, which usually are Sr5s or basic TRD models for only $1-2 less than a new (used market with high resale makes 1-2 year used silly over new) unmolested, optioned the way I want truck...but yes in theory you are correct.

It will fit some people if they shop around. It certainly is not for everyone.

Best I can tell they are loaning whatever they have in stock...

Couldn't agree with you more. When I worked at Toyota we did service work for enterprise vehicles. And they were very low mileage cars that were just beat to Sh*t. We would put new tires with vehicles that had under 15k. Interior was dirty and torn apart. Cosmetic wise it was scratched dented. Not all but majority of them.

I travel from Shreveport, LA, to Dallas TX and back two or three times a year to maintain my certification. During those times I get a company paid rental car usually from Enterprise or Avis. I will have the vehicle for 3 or 4 days driving around in Dallas traffic, and I will keep up with the locals. I have tested the limits of many makes/models of vehicles.

My friend had a rental car for work and the challenge was to see how fast they could drive it over railroad track crossings. They also slammed the doors every time they closed them.

I have been seeing (on the tube) 1k off Tacoma offers from Toyota. This is something I do not remember seeing in the past.

Yeah, I fully expect the Tacoma resale value to fall through the floor.

With the massive 2nd gen rust recall and the multiple mass 3rd gen recalls, nobody is going to want these cars.
