Question...does anyone know of any special tech behind the road shower or is it simply a pressurized tube? Was thinking about making a cheap knockoff for this summer since I can't get one till October. Would anyone else be interested in an economy shower for your rack? Hopefully this is the right thread.

I have a feeling it could just be submersible pump in a simple container. If not I was thinking this could be a simple version of it, just not smart enough to get the power to it.

With a coat of flat black, I wouldn't see why not.

On my project list it goes. Thanks all. ABS plastic is all that is rated for pressure it seems.

If you want hot water, you could build a box out of clear Plexiglas with several black PVC pipes inside. This is similar to solar hot water panels.

With the small amount of water these hold for their footprint on a roof rack I say better off with a water jug/solar shower bag, less than 20$ total.

The pipe comes in black and different strokes for different folks. They don't take up too much room as the pipe is typically about 4-5" in diameter.

Ive seen some nice ones that hold a decent amount of water and the shower is a nice touch.

    Just the basics
I made one this summer too and it looks very similar to yours. I screwed up one part and had to cut the main pipe then got a 2' extention and wye tee part for a filler. The shower would have been used on my last trip but once mounted on top of my camper I could barely pop up the top. That was with the shower empty. So I need to get stronger lifting struts for my camper in order to be able to use the one I built. Mine is over 6' long. To be honest with the length I have it offers about 4.5 gallons. I usually bring one small 4gal container for washing and 7gal for drinking. Having it up on top of the camper offers less set up time in camp in order to shower but puts the weight higher up. Inside the camper is much more stable. Time will tell and there are lots of pros/cons to an abs shower system like these.

I may not even use it during the fall/winter since my main haunts have water and/or showers. Even in the winter using solar shower bags I've not seen them get very warm.

This is the primary inspiration for my creation.
