    Hey guys

Need some help with a transmission cooler for my 2016 Tacoma off-road 4x4

I got a blueox weight distribution sway bar installed on the trailer so this helps a lot
Also added airlift in the rear

I am towing a 23 feet forest river Salem light tops off at 7500 in probably towing 4500 loaded

Did your truck come with tow package? If so it should have one with an oil cooler as well.

The offroad's come with a tranny cooler in the tow package as stated above. Are you towing out of overdrive in S-4 like your supposed to? Are you getting a transmission overheat warning light? You towing at 4500 lbs you are well within towing specs. Now if your truck didn't get the towing package then you have some work to do.

    I have tow package,
It has not gotten hot yet but I also have avoided big climbs. I live in Los Angeles, I want to prepare for the hills like the grape vine.

I did not know it already has a trans cooler thank you for that.

    • Vehicles with an automatic transmission: To maintain engine brak- ing efficiency and charging system performance when using engine braking, do not use the transmission in D. If in the S mode, the transmission shift range position must be in 5 or lower.

Many of us who tow have bought a scanguageII and added the xguage software options for towing temp monitors. I have had mine for a week or more now and I highly recommend it for anyone who tows and is worried about transmission temps. Check out the many threads on TW regarding the scanguageII.

I have a 2017TRD Sport 2wd. I have the towing package but thought an extra cooler cheaper than a new transmission. So I bought a hayden #526 which comes with a cooling fan and then bought the fan controller. I also went to a set of 4ply tires, Put in a EDGE CS2 Performance monitor, did a three inch lift with add a spring on the back and Eibach Adjustables on the Front.IMG_0856.jpg IMG_0910.jpg

Last two times out with the trailer I used S-Port mode on the shifter and had the ECT Button on. We set the cruise control at 60 mph on flat terrain. Truck stayed around 2500 rpm with no issue. When we went up hill the truck shifted down to 4th and 3rd some time but never got over about 4000RPM. I also have a stainless how performance dual exhaust on the truck. I have read post about which gear to stay in and the truck seems to know. Sometimes I take over and try to keep the rpm's above 3500. Not notice much difference. Have not had the big grade climbs yet. Still learning best ways.
