    Back story:

Today, around 6PM, I was on my way to pick up my wife from work and suddenly, BAM! I get rear ended by some idiot going significantly faster than the rush hour traffic speed. Somehow, my car got hit once more from the rear (by the same car) and then I came to a sudden stop, with the POS Chevy Volt behind me. Can't help but think that he was distracted. His car looks like a goner from the pics, as he was leaking coolant and oil, and his airbags deployed.

Let's just say, I wish I never had the factory hitch from that point. The hitch acted as a lever and totally crumpled the rear of the frame. I managed to pull off to the shoulder, while the other car had to be pushed by the highway patrol vehicle. While I'm happy to be relatively fine, I am completely destroyed that my recently acquired DCLB could potentially be totalled. I know it can be replaced, but I've only had it since March, and I love the truck. So disappointing. It hasn't even been two days since installing the Bakflip G2. After the whole ordeal, I managed to get a police report by the CHP, so that should help with the claim.

I just finished submitting the claim to the other party's insurance and getting my back and neck checked out and I wanted to share pics of the carnage.

Yeah, sucks knowing that something you worked so hard for is gone in a blink of an eye. I don't wish anything bad on the guy who hit me, but I don't wish him any good fortune either.

That's shitty. Sorry man... I wish they could make the crumple zones easily replaceable.

Yeah, I still don't understand how, I'm just glad I didn't spin out. The 2nd impact took me by surprise, and the seat even reclined on it's own. Truck seems to drive fine, but I want to get the engine and transmission checked out anyway. I'm just glad the truck was in motion, as I can imagine that taking this hit from a dead stop could've been worse for both myself and the other driver.

Glad you're alright. If the only frame damage is from that folded up section where the hitch bolts on it might be salvageable.

On the brighter side, you helped rid the world of a GM hybrid, the two worst adjectives associated with any vehicle.

Haha, I'm glad that POS is off the road as well...in addition to the GM. From what I've found, that damage can't be cold formed back, and 1.) will need a new frame, or 2. insurance will deem it a total loss. I've seen threads pertaining to model years as early as 2015. Discouraging to say the least.

The Volt must have been moving at a pretty good clip as compared to your truck...

The 1st hit rocketed you like railroading a croquet ball and then you slowed down and he was still going faster than you.

It's very common for the seat to get broken backwards in a "assident".

    Glad you're OK.

Yeah as soon as he got out of the car, he just about shat himself seeing an officer there almost immediately. LOL. At least there was that. When the CHP cruiser came, the other officer said "dude, I know you're not at fault. I'm guessing you need a report."

Read through some of the other threads about accidents and dealing with insurance companies. There's a lot of good info.

Glad you're safe brother but you seem a lot more calm then I would have been if some shithead hit my black beauty.

On a good note if it is salvageable just gives you an excuse for some new mods!

As a married man and a dedicated 2A supporter in California, I've quickly learned that there is a lot to lose for people like me. It isn't a life or death situation, so I just gotta take it day by day. It's my baby, but it's just a truck at the end of it all. But, thanks for the good words, Brother.

Also, I'm searching for any cases regarding Diminished Value claims in California. Anyone know of a successful case?
