Tried the search button in vain.
Can someone tell me what is the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of a 1st gen tacoma?

It's says it on the inside of your driver's side door jamb. Or does the truck you have listed above not tell you? I have a DC so my GVWR is probably different from yours

Truck is far away now, and im trying to find the GVWR and then multiply it by 1.5 which is the formula that i found on the Warn website in order to find out which winch i should be getting.

Edit: i need to get wrid of the cheap winch i have and get a proper one this time.

There is no upper limit to a winch just the fact it would be overkill .

Then just what your recovering from makes a big difference .

Buried to the bottom of the doors in mud is a much harder pull then in snow

I have a 9.5 winch and my GVWR is 5100 pounds on my 2000 Tacoma

My truck is basically the same as yours and GVWR is 5100 lbs.

Wyoming beat me to it. My truck had an 8,000 lb winch on it when I bought it. Figure I'll keep it - doesn't seem too small based on your formula.

8-9k is the standard for small vehicles, no reason to try for an exact match. The 1.5 number is generally the recommended minimim. There isn't really on overkill unless you're strapping industrial winches on. Depending on the stuck a 12k with a block might not get you out.

I had a 12k on my samurai which weighs next to nothing. It's what I had laying around, never regretted having it.
