You can bet the defective parts will keep getting slapped together on the 3RD Gen. line down in Mexico until they completely run them out of the supply chain. I wouldn't be surprised if the problem continues with the 2018's.

Called my dealer today, asked if they had the had my gasket yet. Their response: "We're expecting them any day now, don't worry we'll call you." I asked the expected downtime, once the gasket does come in and he says it's normally a same day job. I also asked if I would have new bolts installed he said "No we didn't order those..."

God damn it seems like theres no real urgency, or organizing with this whole thing. I'd expect better out the manufacturer who endlessly boasts about quality and reliability. My dealers back "impound lot" is just sad, littered with Tacos. Since mine is not on the recall list, they just consider my weeping diff warranty work and it doesn't need to be held according to the service manager.

Who did that job, fred flintstone??

I though Toyota was supposed to have certified and experienced techs working on the recall diffs as per letter, and from this angle, it sure looks like botched job or one that anyone ought be ashamed to admit to geez!

But it goes to show, were there's a will there's a way for a dealer to circumvent or get around corporate mandate smh!!

I'd call the dealer and tell them come pick it up and bring me a loaner.

I would take it back and park it at the dealer for a couple of hours and let the puddle form in their lot. SMH!

Bingo, that's what I said a page back. Although, the more I think about it, if it grenades on him ... maybe they'll fix it right.

Just hope it doesn't seize up in heavy traffic at a good clip.

I didn't realize how bad the RAV4 was until I compared it to the Mazda CX5, my wife just purchased one this week and for 5k less than the rav4 you have, leather wrapped steering wheel, blind spot monitoring, moon roof, navigation, power seats, push button start, keyless entry, the interior feels very premium with metal knobs, and soft touch plastics and not to mention a sporty suspension real fun to drive.

Like you said the rav4 is not a bad car but comparing to the competition and the price tag it feels well below the value.

but at the end of the day Toyota can sell a shopping cart with their brand on it because its Toyota.

Where smaller car companies like Mazda have no choice but to put everything they have into their cars because they NEED it to sell in order to not go under.

Maybe if he he had any deadication to the Toyota brand he would maybe just maybe look into solving or assisting in the issues..... just maybe!

But I was being a little sarcastic which is hard to see from behind a keyboard

The rav4 is not a "bad car" I just feel for the price tag of 28k you expect more considering the competition for crossovers is a very competitive one now.

    but comparing a 1996 RAV4 to a 2017RAV4 I'm sure has its major differences.

I’m going out of town this weekend, driving about 550 miles round trip. Debating whether I should bring it back early in the morning and risk having it held hostage again.... or just wait it out for a month or two and bring the truck back to the dealer then. Hmm....

I'd also let the Manager know in a professional and polite manner, that I didn't appreciate having sunshine blown up my @ss ...

No way you do a job like this without making sure you fixed the problem, especially after a long wait !
