So for a while now, my brake pedal would go to the floor, but gain back pressure after a few pumps. There was no fluid loss and there was no need to bleed the brakes.9 I've seen other threads about the issue. I was told it was the master cylinder, a siezed caliper, etc. I dealt with it for a while but after putting wheel spacers on realized that my wheel bearing was bad on the drivers side. It was really bad. I just replaced it and my brake issue is gone.

Anybody ever have a similar issue?

usually a wheel bearing has no effect on brakes, air in the system, bad master are the usual suspects.

    Coinsidence.

Please fix your brake problem before you are in a situation you can't pump it fast enough and injure someone.

Your description is classic internal seal failure of the master, bypassing fluid and dropping pressure.

If you've never done a master before, get someone to help who has. Its not hard, but done wrong.....

Then do a full fluid replacement / bleed of the whole system.

I had this exact issue. The wobble/slop in the wheel would spread the caliper on the side with the bad wheel bearing while driving and it would take 1.5-2 pumps of the pedal to recompress the caliper again.

That being said, my wheel bearing was near failure and had 1/4-1/2" of slop in the wheel so probably more than most people with a bad wheel bearing. I also replaced front pads, rotors, and rear shoes and re-bled just to be safe.

This describes my situation exactly. And yes, my wheel bearing was probably that bad. The spacers really stressed it out.

I know it doesn't seem related. I'm sure it is a coincidence, but it sure didn't seem like it. Could the brake squishiness have anything to do with the caliper? Perhaps taking the caliper off and putting it back together somehow helped.

Or maybe the issue will come back.

So are you saying the issue went away with a new bearing?

Wrong, worn bearings will spread the caliper open since the rotor wont be inline

Yes, no brake issue after wheel bearing was replaced. Obviously YMMV but the wheel bearing was the root cause of my brake issue.

This appears to be my same situation. It really is completely better with the new bearing. Before, it was every time that I would press the pedal I would have to pump it 1-2 times. Now it is back to normal directly after replacing the bearing. There's some sort of correlation. Thanks for the input guys.

Same issue here, slop in the wheel can open the caliper and you have to pump it back up.

It means they've subscribed to the thread so they get notifications or can find it in their 'watched threads' section in the future.

Of course it does nothing for anyone else except clutter up the thread with a useless post.

All you have to do is click 'watch thread' at the top right of the page, and you will be subscribed.
