Well, I finally got to the cruise control and wiper mods today. I can confirm that both are a piece of cake, and take about 30 minutes total. This truck was one of the most uneducated purchases I've ever made, which is very against my personality. Normally I research things to a grisly death.

I drove the truck at the dealer and got that kid-in-a-candy-store glaze over my eyes, and didn't think to check if it had the basic things that every vehicle I've bought in the last 20 years had, cruise and intermittent wipers. I saw buttons on the steering wheel and a wiper stalk, and made a wrong assumption. I'm sorry to admit that I finally realized it didn't have those features until I was driving it home on the freeway the day of delivery, in the rain.

When I got home I had buyers remorse, wishing I had bought the SR5, but jumped online and with a little research, found these two mods. To say I'm thrilled is an understatement!

Now, if I could only find someone that could tell me if the TPMS module from an SR5 could be installed (plug-and-play) in an SR, I'd be home free. Reason being, is evidently, the factory keyless entry is part of the TPMS module, so I wonder if that would activate keyless entry by just replacing the module and getting a FOB.

Looks like you're going to pioneer this one bud. Sounds like a lot of fiddling around with the scanner, asumming you could even install the module and sensors or if the wire harness came from factory. Might need a donor truck with the right wire harnesses and all. By the end of it you'll wonder if it even worth it.

I have a Sport and I couldn't even swap out the switch bank from a Limited. There's no harness for the last switch, which is the park assist. Forget about the dual climate, you will have to rip out the whole dash to intall that.

Yeah, my thinking was that if the cruise and intermittent wiper harnesses were in the truck, perhaps the trucks were wired for everything from an ease of manufacturing perspective. One base, with simple plug and play accessories to differentiate the models. I guess with the higher end versions, there's dash displays, climate control and other stuff that might be cost prohibitive to have a full harness in a base truck. Also, I believe the SR5 tells you which tire is low, rather than just a generic indicator that one of the tires is low.

I'm not having any luck getting to someone in the engineering division at Toyota to have the discussion.

After I bought my SR, I went back in and asked where the key fob was. They looked all over thinking they lost it, nope, no keyless entry. Honestly, had I know that before hand I wouldn't have bought the truck. Now though, I'm pretty happy with my 24.4K purchase. I did the wiper mod, and I think I'm good, don't need any of the other stuff.

I would say paying 40k for a mini truck would be an uneducated decision :stirthepot:
