If you can find a coil lift that will net the clearance along with a lot of cutting and grinding that still rides as good as the DB, yes, you could do it. I wouldn't say it's easy, per say. If it were easy more people would be running them. In fact I more often see folks try to gain some coil lift and quickly start dropping it down and down sizing in tire size vs the first option they went with due to ride quality and clearance issues. It's not uncommon here in the forums. Usually they find a happy spot and run that, but often it's less lift and less tire than they originally planned. You can of course go the long travel route etc, and spend a whole lot more, and end up with better clearance and say 35's, but not everyone wants to spend that kind of money and frankly, not everyone needs or wants a rock crawler of desert runner. Some folks just want to get their trucks body up out of water for water crossings and maybe have some more clearance for the occasional step up they encounter etc. All lifts, are a give and take, and it's up to the owner to decide what is best for their needs. Too many people like to try and point out any flaws they think some elses choice may have if it isn't like theirs. I see the clearance challenge often, yet I don't ever see anyone wanting to take some measurements and actually see if the DB lift and tire size choice really gives up that much, vs the common coil and tire size most run. My cousin owns an off road shop and has ran pretty much every major high end brand there is to run and on his last two trucks, he's ran DB lifts for his own preference. He's built tacomas that are running 37's, and coils, w/ LT. But if you ask him what he recommends he'll still tell someone they should at least consider a DB. In the end he'll build what they want, and in the end, all that really matters is it's the owners truck and they're the ones who know what they want and need and as long as they're happy, that's all that matters.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but here is a taco my cousins shop built for a guy, running 37's. This guy took this one to moab 2 days later.

On a basic lift is easy. Cut the cab mount as far as you can, beat the pinch weld back, and trim the liners a little. Aftermarket front bumper goes a long way as well. But overall, very easy fit.

More people don't do it because they don't want to regear

Thinking about another retro build... 81-83 stripes on a black Tacoma! What do you think?

Same stripes... no cap, gotta go with the roll bar!

Waiting for a black regular cab Tacoma, watching the used cars for sale every day... shouldn't be long.
