Advice on a cheap lift - don't do it.

Spend the money and do it right, but do it right for your uses.

Best advice - leave it stock.

Define "cheap". (ie, show us your budget)

Contact Marie @ Headstrong Offroad. Tell her what you have to work with (money) and what you wish to do with the truck. She'll give you the best advice you're apt to get anywhere.

Obviously, since you asked the question, leaving it stock is not what you want. With that, there are multiple options to lift that give better ride than stock, better load capacity, better off road performance, etc...With each of those comes a budget. There are options that aren't extremely expensive, but still give you some lift and a decent ride. When getting opinions, remember "good ride" is subjective. A lifted 4wd is usually going to be a FIRM ride. That doesn't have to mean a ride that jars your teeth.

To keep it inexpensive, keep expectations realistic. Stay 2" front lift or less, or else watch the budget numbers jump.

"Stock" suspension won't achieve the desired end results for some of us. With that in mind, you can put together a lift that provides the looks, the performance, the quality of ride, and at a reasonable cost.

You get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

Don't take the "cheap" way out. So many people won't spend the money to do it right, but they always end up spending the money to do it over.

First question is: Why do you want to do the lift? Do you plan on off-roading or do you just want to look cool?

Don't forget your higher center of gravity. Bad for off-road, wet surfaces and side hills. Good for crawling and clearance clarence. Additional weight, worse gas mileage, expensive rims & tires because lets be honest, 99% of people run aftermarket rims and oversized tires when lifted.

Also your suspensions geometry is going to change with a lift that alters the stock vehicle handling. A stock truck will handle better than a lifted truck 100% of the time. Not to mention a quieter more pleasant ride in the cab with stock tires.

+1 I did about as basic a lift, if you could even call it that, and wish I never did it. OME 883's in the front and TSB leafs in the rear. I went +1 on the tire size and I'm down to 15 MPG. Truck looks awesome but I wish I just traded it in for a TRD Pro. Not worth the time or money chasing problems unless you're hard core and/or a mechanic and can do everything yourself and have no kids and nothing else to do.

I switched to 285s and bilstein 5100s and love the way it handles now. I also get almost identical gas mileage to what I was getting with 265s and stock suspension...

"cheapest" lift that should be considered would be just 5100s all around and an AAL in the rear. Step it up a notch by getting aftermarket coils (OME, Eibach, etc.) as well. Maybe a 3 leaf AAL if you want more rear lift, or swap the leaf pack entirely for Dakars (more $$$ obviously)

Stay away from blocks, spacers, body lifts, etc.

you could check the TW marketplace, sometimes you can find good deals on there. Do some research, then do some more, buy lift and install yourself.

@MacMan123, sorry you had to witness all the bullshittery there. I cleaned up the thread so you'll hopefully get more useful information.

Explain how you intend to use the truck and it'll help with the recommendations.

I have 5100's and a superspring in back and the truck handles great, same mpg as stock with 265's and gets thru the steep ruts much better!
