Just sprang for new fixtures in the '04, and the '13 still looks good.

Other than quality wax, is there any product that offers exceptional protection to keep them clear?

Great question. I'm wondering the same. I wonder if Krystal is OK to use on clear plastic?

I just used Optimum Opti-lens on my truck. Supposed to be a permanant coating. It's expensive but should be worth it

I've read that the Megs stuff requires scuffing up the surface in order to adhere. Can it go on NEW lenses as a protectant or is it mostly for making improvements?

I hit all my lights with my sealer when I apply it twice a year. I road tripped a lot this year and had to scrub doen my front end to get bugs off multiple times so I will reapply tge sealer to the headlights to make sure it's still there lol.

Will look into the coating Ace recommended though.

I don't know about scuffing new lenses. I have buffed mine several times. I was having to redo them every year or so until I started using the spray after i was done

I'd hate to scuff a new lens. I am going to apply Opti-lens to the wife's 4Runner since its only a year old. Need to wash my truck and get all the bug guts off the lenses to see how the coating is performing.

Agreed. I got some for my taco. Lenses are like new. But I've not used it since I read that it's intended for preserving restored lenses. The kit comes with a scuff pad. So they clearly don't intend you to polish to perfect before applying. No question Opti is a better choice for lenses in good shape.

I've been using the McKee's 37 for a year or so now. Happy so far but the real test will be how they look in another 5 years.

I think you're going to find that just about any wax / sealant / coating with any kind of UV protection will work great for preventing oxidation of headlight lenses - if you start with a new vehicle and keep after it. The problem is, most folks don't think about putting something on their headlight (as well as tail light and other) lenses until it's too late.

There's actually a certain degree of UV protection built into new lenses, but once it's gone, things go downhill in a hurry. And wet sanding / polishing your lenses to "restore" them can yield some pretty temporary results if you don't apply some kind of replacement UV protection. That's because the sanding / polishing process yields a "new" surface - that doesn't have any protection.

Truth be told, I've never had to buff out the headlights on any vehicle I've owned due to oxidation / yellowing / etc. I just apply a coat of whatever wax / sealant / coating I'm using to them every time I detail the vehicle. To me, that seems a hell of a lot cheaper & easier than trying to restore or replace them later.

Plex-all is great stuff, as I recall. But I t's not abrasive to the degree that you'll see actual "correction", is it?

    Perfect explanation!
Correct. I originally purchased it to clean/protect the lexan windshield on my race car. Lexan scratches if you look at it wrong & I never had any issues.
