Hey guys, I need some advice from Tacoma price experts. I came across a 2015 Tacoma 4x4 TSS for sale at a local dealership. This truck has 43,000 miles, double cab, automatic, roof rack, Leer shell, running boards, and what appears to be a navigation touch screen. They are asking $29,000 for it, and they offered me $14,000 for my 2009 Tacoma, TRD 4x4 with 98,000 miles, camper shell, 6 speed manual. I've always sold my vehicles private party, and I am just not a good judge on used Toyota values. The other thing I'm hesitant about, the 2015 Tacoma has a trailer brake control device added, and it appears the hitch receiver was used. Should this be a concern when buying a used Tacoma? What would be a fair price to ask for my 09 Tacoma? Any advice or opinions are appreciated.

Check both vehicles on kbb. I think the dealer's offer is really light on really light on your trade, 17k seems more realistic. All I can recommend on the new truck is give the trans fluid a whiff, see if it smells burnt. See if there is any history in the navigation. Long trips to areas with camping may indicate they were hauling a trailer.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I'll also have to seriously consider a new one especially if there is only a $6,000 price difference.

a986dude is right... I'd say at least $17k for your truck. Run the VIN using Toyota Owners, that will give you info about all the dealer stuff already done, looks like the '15 is sitting low in the rear, probably the topper. Is this at a Toyota dealer, or independent dealer?

$29k seems a bit much. I'd offer $25k ( of course I always negotiate). The add ons don't mean anything....

Remember, negotiating is not about what it's worth, it's about what you can leverage. In this case the high miles....

I know a lot of people on here are ok paying sticker price for a vehicle, but don't listen to them. They are just little b****es that don't know how to negotiate, and are fine with being ripped off.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't go $15k in the hole for a truck that isn't any more modern than the one I already have.

Sounds like your TRD is the better truck. The TSS is usually just cosmetics. Take that $15k, do some mods, buy some gas, take a vacation and still be ahead of the game.
