Opticoat AND Solar guard?

The local 4x4 shop uses a film called Soalrgaurd, they would only cover high impact areas like 2" of the hood front bumper ect. They said to then use a local detailer who uses 'Opticoat' ...it has a 4 year warranty and is mainly a paint protector from the sun and allows stuff to buff out easier.

I just don't know if I need both?? The Opticoat has a 5 year warranty and is $1,000

I take it solarguard is similar to a 3m bra? If so, i know a few people who have put it on vehicles to protect from rock chips. But UV protection? I say skip...much cheaper to do Sealant/wax to keep the truck clean

 

FWIW, I have xpel installed on my wife's car since she does a majority of hwy driving and its been awesome again rock chips, self healing in the sun is great.

 

I use a bit of cheap spray wax once every few months. When it gets chipped or scratched I use some touch up paint on it if it is deep. I spend maybe $10 a year. What do you want?

 

the question is both or just the opticoat. I want max UV protection and chip/scratch protection too

 

Depends if you are capable of doing some of the detailing yourself or you prefer to pay someone do it for you. If you have $1000 to spend on that, its your truck i say knock yourself out. My personally, i prefer to work on my cars myself.
