Hello fellow Tacoma Tacowners. Just thought you would be interested in the following: I just completed an adventurous experience on a very difficult 4x4 road in Utah called the Flint Trail. The road eventually leads to the Maze District in Canyonlands National Park. I was in my trusty 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4. My goal was to see the rock art panel named the Harvest Scene located in the Maze canyons. While that was in itself an experience, the Flint Trail was most challenging. I have attached a picture showing just one of the many obstacles. The Tacoma handled it pretty well although I could have used a little more ground clearance. Sustained a little damage on the running board and scratches...though it could have been worse.
    Thanks for your time.Help!!.jpg

Hello cblow5...Thanks for your interest. My Tacoma is an access cab with the longer bed that I sleep in. The back fits a queen air mattress and is very comfortable. All tools and needs are in bins that fit below the bed. No lift but will now consider it. Thanks

Nice over there, been too long since we've been. Looks like someone built a little ramp with small rocks. We used to come through on road Harleys and BMWs and would make those.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's a 3/4 rating out of 10 so...fairly easy trail :)

Along with a lift you should look into getting rock sliders in place of your running boards if you intend to do trails like this. Some brands of sliders are designed to look and function more like running boards than others. Very worthwhile investment of you plan on doing any kind of moderate offroading.

Don't fret, Zenny. It looks & sounds like you are doing great and enjoying the heck out of incredible places. Scrapes on the extremities are part of the successful expedition. 4by stock Tacoma & tires & running boards can make most funky roads when it's dry. Just take your time, get out and scout, move some loose rocks to strategically fill a hole or make a ramp like the one in the photo, or to protect your center or extremities. Wouldn't do that on any of the "holy grail" trails, tho. Most of all, continue to have fun & get where you want.

Thanks for your comments and recommendations. The Maze District is located in the National Park so a camping permit is required in the National Park...but none required before the boundary. I know for many of you that this trail is not your hard core 4x4 but for me and my stock TRD it was a challenge. I hope to prepare for further 4x4ing and join those of you who have the knowledge and experience for more challenging 4x4 roads. I have attached a few more pictures of the area.

Rad, I'll be taking the family out to Canyonlands and I think this set of pictures might have made this a destination for us.

Zenny, more details? Did you go solo? Camp at Maze Overlook? How were the other trails?

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments and interest. Just a bit more info for those interested. I did go solo but do not recommend it on the Flint Trail to the Maze district. One needs to know the line through the obstacles to avoid damage...especially with stock vehicles. A spotter can really help you get through the rough spots. Getting to the Maze overlook is alot easier than to the Land of Standing Rocks which is the end of the Flint Trail in the Maze District. I camped there and you do need a camping permit. The trail to the Harvest Scene is about a 9-10 mile round trip, hot, need plenty of water...at least three liters, and a GPS unit with coordinates will help you get in and out of the canyons safely. It is a Maze. Thanks again for your time.
