Just wanted to say hi, I've been looking over this site for a while now, and decided to finally register.

Not much to say, I'm considering a Taco and am looking forward to learning more about them from this page. I was never really a Toyota fan, but a good truck is a good truck, and I really like the looks and reputation of the Taco. I currently have a '07 Volvo XC70 as a DD, it runs good but has almost 200k on the clock. I'm thinking I might want to replace it before I start having any major problems. I was previously seriously considering a JKU, but I just don't think the Jeep is ideal for me. Plus, if I'm honest, as much as I love Jeeps, chances are the JKU will be kind of a POS at 100k miles, while the Taco will be like new.

I'm not going to be doing much offroading, but I like to mountain bike (I ride a Salsa Horsethief, hence my username) and camp, and I think the pickup will be practical for that.

Hopefully I'll go look at and drive one soon!

    Mike

Thanks man. I actually love the Volvo, it's been a great car for the nearly 100k miles that I've owned it. I'm just jonesing for a truck, haha. I was in Moab a few months ago, and we had two rental trucks...a new Frontier 4 door shortbed from Enterprise and an '01 Taco ext cab from a guy in Denver. I actually REALLY liked driving that little truck around. After first riding in it, our friend who had rented the Fronty said "that thing is complete dog shit!" (in his Brit accent, haha). After a few days he was like "We'll take Dog Poop, as long as I get to drive!". The bed size was perfect on that thing, we could just put our 29'ers right in the bed and lay them down.

I also rented a 2 door Rubicon on that trip for a day of trails, and while I LOVE Jeeps, I have to be honest with myself and say that I only enjoyed driving it off road. It was a beast on the slickrock, but not so hot on the pavement.

I may go look at a Taco tomorrow, I found a local dealer has a TRD OR DC/LB in Quicksand. Pretty much exactly what I want, though it's pretty spendy. My biggest obstacle is saddling myself with a 500/month car payment.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If you're in a hurry or have hills to climb get the v6 or in my case the 4 cyl has been good. Just turned 136,000 miles with zero issues. Good luck!
