I personally think that the Bilsteins, even with being a Toyota factory part, are much better in heavy duty situations than the Hitachis.

You're correct. Like I said, for the price point they are hard to beat as an upgrade on Hitachi units.
Unlike the springs matched to the Hitachi's which are linear, the Bilsteins's springs are progressively wound which makes for a good ride over rough surfaces, while maintaining adequate on-road manners. Initial spring rate is softer for compliance but stiffer further into the travel so the truck still has the ability to handle acceptably well on-road without flopping back and forth between the bump stops.
Although progressively wound springs complicate working up a good setting for damping, Toyota picked an acceptable middle ground.

If you really want to get into the suspension dick-waving game though, 5100's are trash compared to an external resi, adjustable damping, custom valved and sprung set of kings or foxes, so I couldn't even fathom why would you be so daft as to buy 5100's when you could just save a few MORE hundreds of dollars. Plebians, I swear. :jerkoff: (note heavy sarcasm)

I am digging the truck man. As far as the SR5 upgraded trucks go you did good. Plus the only person that won't think it is an OR is someone that's not crazy stalking TW.

That SR5 logo looks sick! I will definitely be looking into getting one of those when I get my tuck. Nice build.

How did your off-road suspension cost just $100.00...what components did you replace?

I like how you dubbed it a SR5 Offroad and not a TRD Offroad.

I purchased the factory Off Road shocks/struts and front springs from a local TRD OR owner who changed out his suspension, for only $100.

The Toyota Bilsteins are not progressive springs.

Thats a really good deal on a whole suspension set. They go for 300-400 in the FS section of this forum.

Wow the grill costs more than the suspension :notsure:

Some guys on the 3rd gen threads are painting the fender flares black to match the OR look. IMO, it would look great on your write truck.

    Good job OP.
