So want to get another rc. Looking to get a crawler preferably with a solid front axle but not looking to spend a ton of money. Whats everyones opinion on buying one used or the axial yeti jr and rock rider? Just want something to play around with and not throw a lot of money at. Also have some old controllers from some gas powered buggies we used to have and hoping to use those if I buy new.

Neither of those have a solid front axle but if you want to ever go fast you don't want a solid front axial. My wraith drove terrible if I tried to go fast so I geared it way down and only crawl with it. As far as buying used, I troll around eBay every now and then looking for deals people dump a bunch of money in rc and then lose interest so you can find some good deals every now and then

Yetis are not crawlers. They can be made to crawl. The YJr. has open diffs and little support right now...maybe ever. The YJr. will likely need new electronics out of the box.

All I know well are Axial products. Avoid the RTRs and get a kit. RTR will have poor electronics and plastic links. The kits are without electronics and have metal links. You'd be money ahead already since those would need replacing.

Links can be easily fabricated, though. And decent brushed or sensorless brushless electronics can be found for cheap.

I'd say a SCXII or a Wraith of your choosing. Even the SCX10 platform is still good.

Not really looking for go fast more just something to crawl around the neighborhood and on breaks on the trail. What electronics would I need to get if I went with a kit? Motor, battery, charger, and controller?

Sorry dont know much about the new electric/plastic stuff.

Yes, if your on a budget I would go with brushed setup. Brushless can get expensive.if you have some time browse around here a little bit, lots of knowledge there http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/

For brushed you can't really beat a Traxxas 550 21t and HobbyWing 1080. It's a solid combo and cheap. Servos are a matter of arguement and opinion. There are some excellent ones out there for a lot of money and decent ones for less. Metal gear and as powerful as you can afford is all I can say. I run a $25 MG Chinese servo and can't break it. Not yet anyway. 2s is good for crawling. 3s if you gear down a little.

Ive used one of these for over a year and it's still going strong.

Everything he said. I've got the same charger and speed controller and you can't beat em. I'll throw a plug in for the motor I run though... tekin rock crawler 35t heavy duty. I run it on 3s with 88/16 gears and never gets hot

Finally got a Traxxas TRX-4. Couldn't leave it stock. Also had to add a pic of my Wraith.IMG_0103.jpg IMG_0104.jpg

My LHS had just one of the TRX-4 and it was over $600 there. Sometimes they aren't realistic with their pricing. But let something get discontinued and they'll have it at 75% off days afterward.

I run these on my Bomber.

Big sensorless motor in 2650kV flavor. On 2s it's quick but on 3s it's...quicker.

Powered by this ESC I happened across one day. It was $44 shipped when I found it. DH has some deals if you keep an eye on them. I got some scale bolts and a complete RC4WD front mount tranny for about $50 shipped. The ESC is programmable and is a rebrand of something else.

    $25 servo rated at 30kG.

Anybody run non-ballooning tires? Are they worth it?

Are you talking about the tires or the foams?
I am running tires with reinforced sidewalls. And I have seen zero-growth foam inserts available.

Tires. I cannot find the URL I was looking at. But I've read about turning tires inside out and putting duct tape on them to prevent ballooning.

I've heard of that as well. Tried it on my 1/16th E-REVO and it didn't really help.
That little thing turns tires into pizza cutters at full throttle.:D

Found it. These tires do not make pizza cutters. Even off the ground, full throttle.

An 870 with birdshot would take care of the drones and have little impact or bodily harm if shot at a proper trajectory. Just like pellets raining on the back side of a dove field.
