holy crap, your brother is one lucky guy. That could have not only been fatal for him, but a really grotesque way of going out....

Glad you're okay OP, that accident looks gnarly...glad you didn't have a passenger at the time, they might not have fared so well

Tell me about it. When we stopped sliding, he was unconscious - limp, hands resting on the ceiling, so of course I start fearing the worst. We were on a lonely mountain road, very little traffic. Then, as I start to look around realizing how screwed we were, a white pickup drove up. All he had in the truck was a roll of paper towels and a cell phone. We used both, easily saving his life.

When EMTs arrived, they were more concerned with ME because I was pretty much completely covered in his blood because I had to struggle with him to pull him out of the car. They insisted I was in shock and couldn't feel my injuries.

When our dad got the call from the hospital, he was actually quite livid (forehead vein popping out and all) at me, assuming I was driving (I had recently wrecked another car, but that's a story for another time, lol...). Luckily the nurses explained that I wasn't actually driving before he saw me, otherwise he might have just ended me right then and there...

It was nearly 20 years ago (oh god I'm old...), and while we can both joke about it now, it was indeed a crazy time.

What is the verdict on 1st gen Tundras? I have never been around one TBH. I am finding a few for sale cheaper than Tacomas. I am thinking of going to look at an 02 4.7L Auto model.

for the Tundras, I think in '04 or '05 they changed to VVTi for more power

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Tundra

edit: also in '05 they switched to the 5-speed AUTO

Modded is not something don't I want. I just want a good stock truck to use when I need to haul something or pull the lawnmower around.

I have looked at a couple so far. All have had rotted out frames so far. Such as the norm in the Midwest. I might just have to take a vacation to Arizona, buy one, and drive home LOL.

There are plenty of tacos in Denver and more things to do here than Arizona for vacation, no rust issues here to speak of

As bad as the frames fail on these trucks in this part of the country makes me wonder if I should consider a Ford Ranger instead. I'm not a big ford guy but there are lots of early 2000s trucks in my price range with the 4.0L 4x4 setup. IDK...

you're literally in the middle of everything. keep looking. even a Ford can rust if not properly taken care of.
