I was wondering what could be some possible reasons for the check engine light to come on, today we got heavy rain with high winds and lots of dust, I'm wondering if that has to do anything with it... Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem :annoyed::notsure:

Get this or a bluetooth OBD-II scanner (or a more expensive one if you want to get more details on the other kinds of codes your truck might throw - but they don't always live up to their claims). Then you can read the codes for the check engine light and then search for solutions or ask for help based on the codes. Otherwise it's hard to say if it's due to the weather or a coincidence.

Did they give you the exact code number? Such as P0171 or P0420, etc.

Taking a parts store's word on it being the O2 sensor is risky IMO

    Hit any deep puddles ??

The sudden cooling of the cat could have tripped a PO420 code.

Before changing things clear the code see if it comes right back

Last month I washed my frame with a power washer. The next day I got a CEL so I went ahead and bought an OBD II reader. It turned out to be a P1035 (front A/F sensor) and I guess getting it really wet was the final death kneel for my A/F sensor (it was 15 years old). I went and replaced it and everything cleared up and my engine ran much smoother. Heres how to do it:
