So this is my 4th Toy trk, first time having one out here in Michigan. I owned a '81 4x4 in Colorado (LOVED IT), then had a '89 4x4 in CA (LOVED THAT one even more... so much I rebuilt the engine at 300K+ miles, I got it for a grand), gave it to my brother so I could upgrade to a 98 4Runner which I brought with me to MI. When that was T-boned by a bus on a icy road (still upsets me to this day as it only had 90K miles and was paid off) I bought my now '04 Taco with 70K miles in 2013. It seemed solid enough and being from out west I figured if I just kept my truck washed regularly and coated it I would be fine for rust. It's a Toyota, I am naive about their rust issues as they were non-issues out west. Today while driving home form work, I heard a strange noise and was shocked to find a serious issue. My truck is NOT safe to drive. The mount where my cab connects to the frame is broke. I crawled under the truck, and the frame is shot. I know little to nothing of these things. reading thru the various forums I am stuck. Scrap the truck or replace the frame. I love my Taco... but I don't have 30K for a new one, and try finding a use Taco in Michigan is impossible.
I was told my frame looked bad but was still fine by the Toyota dealership when they replaced my gad tank after the fuel strap fell off while driving down the road. Now I am F*cked. :/
