Still pretty new here. Not sure if anyone cares, but I figured I may as well share.

I just finished pulling the transmission to do the clutch in my truck and made this useful floor jack adapter to get a good hold on the transmission. The adapter made pulling the transmission pretty easy, and steering the the transmission around the exhaust flange wasn't all the bad either. Anyways, here is a picture.

    IMG_20170715_185753057.jpg

The adapter sits in the floor jack and bolts up to the transfer case. The front of the transmission just before the bell housing sits in the vertical plate at the front of the adapter. The steel welded along the edge prevents flexing in the plate. Here it is all hooked up.

    IMG_20170715_190649861.jpg

Obviously, the pin that sits in the floor jack receiver is positioned quite far forward, but this is because I had two jacks and could place one in back on the transfer case for added support and control. I am confident the job could be done with one jack by simply welding the pin further back as the transmission was resting on on the adapter alone at times. Here is a picture showing how both jacks were set up.

    upload_2017-7-16_23-6-44.jpg

I made this adapter just fitting everything by hand. No measurements needed and definitely worth it for the added control and stability over a transmission jack or a standard floor jack without the adapter. If you have any questions on making one yourself, or would be interested in buying one. Let me know. I wouldn't mind making a few more if you guys would find this helpful.

    Some additional pics:

I'm interested in buying one that could be used with a single jack. How much?

    $100 sound reasonable?

I'm in too. Where are you located? You can add it to your You>Personal Details tab at the top under Location and it will show up each time you post.

Awesome. Weld'm up and I'll pay pal you whenever you're ready :) What size does the pin hole have to be on the jack or is that something we can email you with? Doesn't matter too much - this thing is going to help me a lot even if I have to buy another jack!

I can make it any size you want. Just give me the dimension on your jack. I believe most are 1&3/16.

I have the Harbor Freight steel jack - gotta go outside to see if it's the heavy duty or low profile - I'll measure it and post it up on here in case anyone else has it. :)

Wow someone actually local to me!

Can you make one that would work with both an A340E without a transfer case and a A340F with transfer case? I'm going to be using it when I do the PreRunner conversion and I swap the transmissions.

I will have to check tomorrow. I also have a double cab auto 4wd so I will see what I can do and get back to you on that.

No problem. Just as long as I can bolt it somewhere to a mounting point that both transmissions have.

I wouldn't be turned off on the idea of making one. I've been learning to weld and it'd be good practice, what kind of steel did you use?

1018 on the blot flanges. I used a plasma torch to cut the rest out of 1/4 inch plate I had laying around. The reinforcements were just a mild tool steel I also had around the shop.

Looks like the Harbor Freight jack won't work with this. It's got a post right underneath the pressed in disk that holds the cup thingy on the top of the jack. What jack did you make it for? I don't mind buying another one - it would be helpful to have two as well.

What kind of welder did you use? I have a cheap 120v Lincoln Electric MIG welder, don't know if it can handle that kind of steel.

I think you should be fine. He's not welding for ultimate I-need-to-make-this-ballz-out strength as much as to keep the parts together for what they're intended for and a trans is relatively light - I could pick one up with a bell housing sans transfer case by myself no problem. Or just get a stick welder and have at 'er :)

I used TIG for this just cause its a little cleaner. You should be able to make something work though.

Thanks for the help, guys. I have a lot of time to figure this all out. Still looking for an A340F to swap in.

Here's some pics of the Harbor Freight Heavy Duty 3 Ton Jack. I was going to buy a trans jack for $100 so the price of the jig plus another floor jack isn't much more, plus I get something better than the trans jack and an additional jack for jobs that require two.
