I gotta a big project going on. I had some oil leaks so I got a complete engine gasket set from Rock Auto. Pretty certain leaks from distributor and timing chain cover. When I pulled the head off I seen this piece of hose. I got the timing chain cover off and here it is. It's definitely been cut down. The ends are not smooth. I looked in my chilton manual and the fsm to make sure no mention of it. The guy I bought the truck from said he had a new head put on it from blown head gasket about 5000 miles before I got it. Maybe they dropped it in there and didn't realize it? Or too lazy to get it out? Maybe the put it there for a purpose? But this surly don't belong...right?

I've never opened up a Tacoma motor, but I can say I've never seen a random section of hose belong in a motor.

Also there's not a gasket on the passenger side between the block and timing chain cover. One came in my kit. They did use one on the driver side. All my leaks was from the passenger side.

It isn't supposed to be there. Must have fallen in there on the previous job

and yes, if you have a gasket for the passenger side in your kit, put it, because it is not included in the kit for no reason :)

I think that's a mod I read about a few years ago. Supposed to add like 20 hp... but I think it's up-side-down...

lol....thanks. I'll flip it over. That extra 20hp will be great with this 2.7!

    Pretty much stock right now
Now that's funny. How can anyone be that careless with major repair. I know I shouldn't ask that question.

Wow. I would almost consider re-doing his head gasket job if he was that sloppy. You never know what else he may have left in there.

Oh! I missed that part, I thought you were just fixing the leak.

I once bought a used engine on craigslist, and while double checking everything, I found a toy car in the valve cover. Apparently the guy just had the engine sitting in his living room and his kid just shoved it down the oil cap. I assume. Engine worked ok, tho.

What kind of car? Depending on which it could have increased performance.

I read about something like that too, plus added performance from half eaten sandwiches left in the exhaust manifold - more backpressure for a couple passes down the drag strip ;)
