Starting the engine cold was no problem, but once it was warmed up, if I had to start it again, I'd have trouble getting it to turn over. It was simply a dirty MAF sensor. Just cleaned it with MAF Sensor Cleaner and solved the problem. I couldn't find a reference to this problem on the site--maybe I missed it.

This turned out to be a spent fuel pump, unfortunately. Removing the bed and accessing it through the top of the fuel tank rather than lowering it is easier. Other threads out there on that.

Did you replace that yourself or have a mechanic/dealership do it?

I did mine my self. Took bed off and dropped tank. Less fuel is better
Before you just change it; it is one of, if not the most expensive parts that may or may not be connected with your issue. Just saying.

Did you put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail to verify a bad fuel pump?

I don't see how cold vs hot would make a difference when the pump is bad.

Same here. My truck is starting fine cold and hot, but seems to have trouble starting if I've let the engine cool down to a "warm" start for an hour or 2.

I've messed around with it twice: first, myself, to replace just the filter, then I just paid someone later to access the tank and replace the pump entirely.

Agree, you'll want to do troubleshooting. I had codes: running lean, misfiring. Fuel pressure was low--this was my strongest indicator it was the pump. The pump is $320.

Once you get the bed off, I'd be surprised if you'd need to drop the tank. I've never actually done it that way though: I just know dropping the tank was a pain.

A 2 hr heat soak and hard starts could be leaky injectors.

Yeah, sorry, gents, I don't remember why it was a problem only on warm starts. If I remember right, that was only after first few months, then it started happening on cold starts too.

I'm not getting any codes or check engine light.

You won't get any codes with leaky injectors.

The reason it's hard to start after 2hrs is the leaking fuel had "flooded" the combustion chambers with raw fuel. Too much fuel and not enough air creates a rich environment. Too rich to support combustion.

When the truck sits all night, that fuel has evaporated. The truck starts normal.
