I have an '04 Tacoma that was hit by a deer a year and a half ago. Before the accident, I had front turn signals on the front bumper as well up top in the side marker lights by the front headlights. After I got the truck back from the repair shop, the only turn signals I have on the front are on the bumper. I ended up with 2 brand new head light/side marker light assemblies. The headlights work fine and the parking lights work fine. In the side marker lights, they no longer flash for the turn signals, and they don't flash when I turn on the hazard lights. Was told by one person it had to be my relay. Another said it can't be the relay if the turn signals on the bumper are still working. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This may be a dumb question, but were the side markers modified to have turn signals? That's not a stock feature. The only factory turn signals were on the bumper.

2BeersPlease, there was no modification. I bought the truck brand new and have always had turn signals in the side marker lights until I got it back from the repair shop.

Interesting. If that's the case, then why do so many people do the side marker blinker mod? There are several threads on it. My truck is an '04 and it's never had the side markers flash, and I've never seen another with flashing factory side markers that wasn't modified.

Couldn't tell you. Mine is the '04 Tacoma TRD SR5. It came with the side blinkers.

Same here. Now I'm curious to know why our seemingly identical trucks have different turn signals.

Greetings fellas, just thought I'd chip in on this post as I've wondered for some time why my top side lights never engage, only my front bumper turn lights. I thought there was an issue with my 04 prerunner until reading 2beers comments...

I haven't been able to find anything about the corner lights being turn signals. I'm wondering if it was done by the dealer. If you look for turn signal parts, they are all the ones that go in the bumper. The corner lights are just corner lights.

EDIT: The part is "Parking & Clearance Lamp Assembly." I would think if it was a turn signal, the label would indicate that.

My 04 Tacoma DC had them in the bumper too. Till I got a trailgear bumper and retrofit headlights with dual switchbacks. Blinkers have always been located in the bumper unless someone has done the Blinker Relocation mod. I'd like to see a picture of the back of the side marker light that supposedly is a stock blinker from the OP. That will show us if it's been modified or not.

I agree with you guys. I've never seen a stock Tacoma with flashing corner lights. It's always been in the bumper.

When I installed my retrofits I had to tap into the bumper signals for the halo turnsignal.

    are you the original owner?

as many have stated already, the turn signals are only in the lower front valence from the factory. they were never in the side "marker" light location unless modified in some way.

even the 2nd Gen has the turn signals separate from the side marker lights.

 Also, some pics of your turn signals in action, and pics of the back of your marker lights. One screw on top and it pulls straight out. Do you have one bulb, or two?

OP hasn't answered since Post #5. Where ya at @johnsojw? I think OP had modded corners and when the body shop fixed it and he got it back, they just installed brand new OEM corners. There's your answer to why your only blinkers that work now are in the bumper!
Cause that's the only OEM blinkers on these trucks!
Problem solved! Sadly we'll never know without seeing the back of the housings!
