I purchased a trd sport access cab. Main reason is: It looks better, it feels more comfortable driving then all that space in that back that doesn't get used, 90% of the time I'm by myself, and of course, the longer bed. You can buy a double cab with a long bed, but, it looks terrible in my opinion. The rear seats on the AC are good for an emergency or a quick ride somewhere. I have my girlfriends car for a road trip. I have tools and tie downs in the back and it works out perfect for me. This is mine.

I love the looks of the ACs soo much more than the DCs. Especially the stubby dcsb.

Late to reply, but I never said, nor meant to imply DCLB MT was an option. I also agree about the manual though. Better deal, better value, better longevity.

As a dude who grew up in the sticks and now lives in the city, can confirm. When I head back to there or to the hills, I'm definitely driving "one o' them little Jap toys." In town, I get passive aggressive bullshit (usually by passersby when I'm attempting to parallel park) about driving something so enormous and environmentally irresponsible. (I have a totally stock AC with a Softopper.)

Moral of the story: drive whatever makes sense for you, because other people suck.

It's money, but I've owned both configurations and I prefer the crew cab

I have owned all 3 configurations of Tacos. Give me the access cab hands down. Rear seats when rarely needed and a long bed every day.

I'm an old single guy and wondered whether I'd really "need" the passenger hauling capacity of the DC. Bought my DCLB about 6 weeks ago, the dealership gave me a decent deal on it, and since then I've had a shit-ton of company and done a surprising amount of people hauling. Meanwhile, my 4-door Wrangler is in the shop getting two recalls and a TSB dealt with, so the Tacoma was it. Worked out great. Then just yesterday a circumstance came up where I had to drive myself and 3 co-workers, three of us over 6' tall, to several locations around town. I like having the 6'2" bed, would not have bought a SB truck, and having the extra inside room is just plain nice. The truck handles great and I've not found the length to be a problem thusfar. I wanted an automatic in this one. My Jeep is a MT and while I have driven MTs all my life and occasionally find it enjoyable, I didn't feel like rowing more gears right now. So win-win from my standpoint.

Long time access cab owner... I like the looks better than any DC and must have a long bed. If I had it to do over I'd have got a DCLB. I really don't need passenger space that much but when we travel with the dog it is an issue. Very little dry storage space and no good spot for a dog. For now I installed a retractable tonneau on the bed for gear, bought a nice receiver mount bike rack for the bikes, and made a platform for the doggy for when he gets tired.

Dog shelf, about 26x18, velcro to subwoofer, sits on console and held in by front seats. Note: I already had removed all the ridiculous rear jump seats and console that just got in the way.

Didn't read all 19 pgs to see any kind of OP response.....and since the OP leaves so much room to comment on - and at the risk of double posting previous sentiments I'll cut the mustard here.

    AC:
6MT-Available across much of the v6 platform.

    6' bed: Yes

6MT + Long bed: Presently only available in a TRD Sport platform unless you're lucky enough to be living in the great country of Canada looking down at us poor saps governed by a no talent ass clown.....where you would be able to get this configuration in the TRD OR package.

The 6MT is more available on the double cab according to the pinned thread of order codes on here. In AC it is only available on the Sport. If you want any other AC, it is the shifty AT. That's the only reason I don't currently own a third gen. I can barely fit a DCLB in my garage and as someone said above, a 5 ft bed is just a wheel barrow.

Sorry I didn't realize I had it limited to AC there. Meant to say that 6MT was widely available over the V6 platform.

I was really hoping I could buy an AC with a short bed & rear power window. :annoyed:

None taken, but I gotta ask: Is there a bed back there or is it a box? :D

Get the DC LB it has more space and if you carry anyone they can ride in comfort.

Get a long bed access cab. Just don't carry anyone. Just worry about your own comfort and needs. If they want comfort then you can ride in the back seat of their car. Win win.
