Friend of mine who does rust-proofing. Drive over a pit, sprays oil inside frame, on undercarriage. Drills holes in doors and rockers, shoots oil inside. Rubber plugs in the holes that looks factory. Shoots inside tailgate and hood, gas door, etc. Keeps vehicles SO much cleaner even in the winter.

OK Thanks. We Call that the "old Farmers" trick using their old used oiled. Does work and the exposed frame parts usually get protected for a bout a year or more - the in the door and frame spray lasts for years. Better than nothing in the bottom of doors and around fender to body seams.

I have a 98 Tacoma. I did have it inspected by a local dealership about 5-6 years ago. At that time it 'passed' and they had someone spray some coating on it. Now fast forward to 2017. The coating in some spots have flaked off and the area around the front mounts of the leaf springs is rusting out pretty bad. Anyone happen to know if I have any options with Toyota or am I SOL? I thought they extended the warranty at that time, but can't remember the details of it.

Just had my 2006 Tacoma at the dealer today. They inspected the frame and put on the recalled leaf springs. They said that they submitted a case for the frame to Toyota. Does anyone know how long that takes to get approved?

Mine took a week and this past Friday the frame came in. I brought it in Saturday and they gave me a Rav4 and said it will take about 4 to 5 days.

I used a screwdriver pretty good and it seems the under layer is pretty good.....

So let's hope it fails the second time. I bet they do give me shit about my weld on sliders, but they are welder on over a foot away from this spot

    Are the frame rails separating?

So the picture I posted seems like they are.

The frame does have some degradation by the leaf springs where the frame comes together in multiple parts

If there is a 10mm gap between the layers it might fail.

So if the flaky layer is 10mm away from the inner layer it could fail

I have been told that. It is a safety structural issue. Some have been passed while others failed.

Have an appointment for October 10, now to decide to paint it temporarily to stop any more rust

So on closer inspection the rusted part does go through to the inside of the frame.IMG_2407.jpg
