I tried a TRD filter on my '14 V6 and had the same issue as the OP at start up. When I removed the TRD filter hardly any oil came out while unscrewing it from the filter housing. It was close to bone dry. I went back to the OEM filter, and it's quite at start up.

I've been sticking with OEM filters since I've had the truck just based on the stickied post from one of the mods on filter quality.

My dad has used fram on all his vehicles since forever and hasn't had an issue. That being said I don't mind spending a little extra on OEM. A couple bucks more per year is chump change. I don't like buying the cheapest nor the most expensive. I follow the you get what you pay for mentality, with both extremes of the spectrum being either overhyped or subpar.

Color matched door handles, Weathertech floor liners, bed mat, Durafit seat covers, tailgate clamp, 2016 TRD Sport 17" wheels with Yokohama Geolander AT tires , Toyota exhaust tip, Toyota/Yakima bike rail mount, Toyota wheel locks, Toyota hitch cover, Redline hood struts, unifilter on air pump.
Just some info. K&N, Mobil 1, TRD, Royal Purple oil filters are all made by Champion Labs and have a very good reputation. My guess is the OP got a bad one. I personally have had good luck with those filters, but I'm running factory filters now. They are cheap by the case on Amazon and other sites and also have a good reputation. JMO.

That is how we humans behave: some action, nice word, or beautiful paint matching a sounding brand moves our emotions to decided that's a good thing, then our brain will create all reasons to justify our desires.

This pretty much sums up all oil brand and oil filter brand threads.

This got me interested in who owns what...

Fram - Fram Group - Rank Group, a privately held investment company from New Zealand.
Other holdings include Reynolds, Hefty, and Autolite

Purolator and Wix are owned by Mann+Hummel, a German company that manufactures their own line of filters.

Baldwin and Hastings are owned by Parker Hannifin Corp, HQ in Ohio.
Parker has many divisions making pumps, hoses, generators, etc...

Donaldson - owned by Donaldson Company Inc.; based in Minnesota.

Denso - formally Nippon Denso; HQ in Japan. Toyota owns about 25% of Denso; this is likely Toyota's oil filter manufacturer. And since Toyota also owns about
25% of NGK, this may explain why Tacomas have NGK plugs on one side, and Denso plugs on the other side, as both companies make plugs.

(Each label above, including Mann+Hummel, have their own manufacturing plants.)

Mobile 1 - owned by Exxon Mobile Corp; but the filters are made by Champion Laboratories, owned by The Carlyle Group, a private investment firm from Washington DC.
Champion Labs is a private label supplier for 30+ filter labels. They own two labels of their own: Champ and Luber Finer.

Bosch, Royal Purple, Amsoil, and K&N's sites do not disclose who makes their oil filters.
