OFFICIAL - 3rd GEN 275/70r17 Tire Thread

Howdy boys, I've been thinking of doing a 285/75/17 setup on my stock tacoma and thinking of adding a leveling kit which would add some raise at all 4 corners as well as using spacers to even out the look. Anything wrong with what I'm planning to do? Any ideas?

 

Just wanted to share my results with 275/70/17 KO2s on a bone stock TRD Sport.







I had to take a dremel to the protruding edge of the driver's side fender flare, behind the tire, because it was rubbing on all left turns. No UCA issues (likely thanks to the SCS F5s.)

I am doing a Toytec 1" front spacer and that is it. The truck is a lease and two days old so no need to get heavy into anything.

 

Any regrets on doing the 275/70/17s?? I am about to do this but some concerns.
I have 2016 sport 4x4 dcsb. I have SEMA 17 wheel with the 4 mm offset, also using blistein 5100s all around with fronts set at first notch of .85 (older gen 2 version 5100, the new ones for 3rd gen were not available) I currently have 265/70/17 wrangler adventures Kevlars. Seems to be plenty of room. There seems to be a lot of people that have done this with no issues. And I am aware I am gaining some significant weight going to the KO2 but 80 % of my driving is open highway, so from what I have read once the extra weight is moving my mpgs are not going to take a big hit since I do very little stop and go driving. 12 lbs difference more on the KO2s. I read one post by some who put on the 275/70/17 KO2s and he hatted it, claimed truck had no power at all. I see by the date on your post you have had this set up for about a month. If my research is correct the 275/70/17 are just a little more than a 1/2" larger in diameter and a little less than a 1/2" wider than my current tires. Would you do it again? Thoughts?

 

I don't have any regrets. I think the truck had no power in the first place, and it's an around town DD for me. The truck is fine, can still handle 75-80 well enough. I only had the stock wheels and tires on the truck for like 100 miles, and have since done about 1200 with the KO2s. I think they look good and are worth having on the truck. I can't imagine going any bigger unless you never go on the highway and/or re-gear.

Did you do upper control arms as a part of your lift?

KO2s, SEMA rims, old school billies set at .85. No rubbing, plenty of room on the UCAs. I was a bit worried but turned out exactly how I wanted so that's a good thing.

Great looking truck. I'm thinking of doing the same thing except maybe with the 887 springs. I see you have the taco lean spacers. Did you leave those on even with the bilstein 5100s? I'm just trying to level it out as well.

Yes, installed the taco lean spacer even with the bilstein shocks

 

No rubbing issues at all? I thought we could only go up one size with stock suspension?

 

There are guys running this size and have had issues with fitment. A lot of variables involved....alignment, wheel back spacing and offset, among others and all vary from truck to truck.

 

I'd like to run 275 70 17 and it would be nice to get them on while I wait on the suspension.

Can you send pics of this? I'm rubbing pretty good even after doing a CMC. I'm running 285/70R17 on 4Runner TRD Pro wheels with 1.25" Spydertrax spacers. I cant decide if I should cut it all out or use a heat gun to "reshape" it. I haven't considered your approach, and can'[t quite visualize what you did.
