Hello everyone, I've been saving my money for a supercharger, and finally have enough for the charger and the URD 7th injector kit. My concern is that I'm going to get some pinging and not know what to do. I don't have the slightest clue about tuning. My truck is a 2000 Taco TRD 5spd manual with 138k on it. Any advice would be appreciated. I want to drive this truck AT LEAST another 100k miles and dont want the charger to greatly jeopardize that possibility.

You will likely get high gear low RPM ping which you can eliminate with the URD kit. Just add some retard in the RPM/boost area where it pings (increase the value in those cells). Read Gadgets u-tune supplement guide for the AIC (additional injector controller). It will tell you how to change these values in the software. The only issue with getting rid of ping is you will lose some power by adding retard to the timing. But that's better than blowing the motor. The real way to get rid of ping and not lose power is meth injection. But that's a whole different story.

The tune that is included in the 7th injector controller does a pretty good job of getting rid of any ping, I have not had to adjust the tune at all for my setup.

I have more miles than any I have seen on my supercharger, 530,000 miles of supercharger fun with NO 7th injector, 7th injector is the way to go but not mandatory, supercharger will not shortened the engines life
as long as you don't run it lean, use 91 octane and don't lug the engine if you hear pinging. I have no high rpm pinging, just occasionally lug pinging and that means change to a lower gear, so no big deal. To be safe do a complete rebuild every 150,000 miles on the charger. GOT BOOST?

Just added a snow performance progressive methanol injection kit for 475.00
ZERO PINGING with a 2.050 pulley and AFR is perfect all the way across the rpm
and kicking out 265 pounds of torque at the rear wheel at 2000 rpms :)
No need for a 7th injection system or piggyback system or larger fuel pump or larger injectors for me!!

How often do you anticipate having to refill the meth?

Don't know yet, I'm on my 2nd tank right now, I wanted to keep the engine
Bay Area clean, so I used the windshield washer reservoir and installed
a low level float for it. There are 2 lights with the kit, both installed in the boost guage.
One led light is for when the tanks is getting empty and the 2nd one comes one
when the system starts to spray. I will add some photos later,
When you tune the system it will spray at (5 pounds adjustable for me) and progressive it's way up.
For our trucks we need the smallest or next size up nozzle (you get 2) and it only sprays
above 5 pounds for me, (it's adjustable) so if I wanted to run the truck all day I could do so without
going much above 5 pounds of boost and hence not use any meth. This system is working
outstanding so far for me at 6000 feet, my boost went up to 9.2 pounds on the Dyno also.
My AFR now ar as perfect as it gets!!
I'm totally dumb founded why these systems are not in every supercharged truck that
has ping issues because it cost so little and is pretty easy to install,
And there are so many benefits the meth kit offers, most importantly
dropping the supercharger temps by 100 dergrees, (no need for a incooler) denser air and adding octane to 110-115 which a 7th injection can't do. I'm probably going to run the 20 degree 0, below windshield fluid as it's 30 percent meth and that will cost 2.00 a gallon maybe every other tank full.
Even if the system failed and didn't work it would not hurt the engine, would just start
pinging, so it's not setup to where it can't run without the meth system.

You know that feeling when it's raining out and the supercharger is running extra
strong because of the humidity and your saying I wish I had this extra punch? Well now I have that all day long even at 95 degrees,
    No more heat soaked supercharger!!

Can't believe it took me 530,000 to add this system,

Got to be the best keep secret on TW for a surpercharger

I just didn't know the real benefits
Wish I had done this years ago but the technology wasn't there until more recently
for a more streamlined and safer type system with the computer advancements.

That's a pretty awesome setup and some great numbers. I wish I had done this when I had a S/C'd 3.4 a couple years ago as well. This sounds pretty simple and extremely beneficial especially for the cost. Great post. This would make a greAt write up for other s/c owners

Yup,in particular for four wheeling, the stock motor puts out 220 pound of torque at 3600rpms at the flywheel and mine is probably around 325 pounds of torque at flywheel at only 2300rpms, :) if you consider 20 percent loss in the transmission to the rear wheel

Great quote, the 7th can only add fuel, the cooling effects are not as near effective as water meth, even water alone.

Summertime is fun again! It is really nice to run year round with no retard!:curls:

I used to run methanol injection in my turbocharged VW VR6 GTI. In the Florida summer heat, running 16lbs of boost and making hard pulls the aluminum intake manifold would be cool to the touch. The same engine NA would have that intake manifold hot enough to fry an egg. We compared engine logs to a friend with the same engine setup but a large intercooler and our temps were within 5-10° throughout the whole range. Pure water worked well enough to keep things running, but mixing in pure methanol with it was much better.

Added my first gallon of boost juice after 1700 miles, (6 gas tanks later) I'm pretty surprised a gallon went that long, I thought I was going to be adding a gallon every tank full, I guess with it spraying at 4 or 5 pounds and above it doesn't use that much, so far zero issues
