There's about 50 things in the front end assembly that can cause that. Including worn out wheel bearings and lousy tires.

If you take it for an alignment at a quality shop, they'll give you a list of what needs to be repaired/replaced before they can complete an alignment.

    Bad suspension or steering components.
My trucks back end was jumping all over and it was saggind leaf springs combined with blown shocks.

If your steering has play, it's probably your tie rod ends. I'd jack the front end and have someone turn the wheel, watch the steering move and see where the wiggle is. Check all your bushings too.

Whatever it it you shouldn't be driving it at all if it is that bad. I'd have it towed to a shop.

That is your wheel bearings being bad or tie rods(im betting bearings). Lift the front off the ground and grab the tire on the top and the bottom see if it tilts in or out. Then grab the tire on each side and move in and out watch the tie rod ends. Or have some one steer it while you hold the tie rod(s) and (feel for play, popping) There should be signs in the tire wear. Look at the inside tread it should be significantly lower in 32nds than the outside tread or other signs. To check ball joints you need to lift the truck in a way so the control arm is not affected by your lifting device so it can hang unloaded from suspension or truck weight. And the tire needs to be just and inch off the ground. Then slide a pry bar under the tire and lift it up and down while someone looks to see if there is any play in the upper ball joint and lower ball joint. We have a lift with a center lift in it. So we can lift the car high enough to stand under it and at the same time we can lift it off the lift by the body the check front end parts and rear end parts. In about 1 minute so it's much easier for a shop and most shops will offer a free check. And some will even show you if you ask to see:gossip: Then you just do it yourself if you can. The wheel bearings are not fun......We just burn em out :welder: and press in new ones!

    Yea, well don't.

We are all guessing. We have to, because we're not there.

But this stuff is like brakes. It's life threatening, and not something for a beginner to muddle through.

You either need seasoned DIY helpers to teach you what to look for and how to repair it, or do as suggested in post 2, take it to an alignment shop, and let them tell you why they can't align it.
