I just got a call from Toyota corporate in response to an email I sent to the president. The woman I spoke to told me that Gulf States Toyota is expecting to receive parts in two weeks. Furthermore, they are prioritizing allocation based on how long trucks have been confiscated rather than 'first come first served' (as told by Toyota customer support line).

So far I've done the NHTSA, FTC, and opening a ticket with corporate along with kicking off the Texas Lemon Law process (not that I have a chance in hell with that one because of TX's pro-corporate stance). When I emailed the president of toyota I included all that information in the message. I'd also recommend Better Business Bureau and possibly even trying your state attorney general. BBB requires the business to respond in a certain amount of time so I'm saving that one in the event parts don't arrive in 2 weeks as promised by the woman on the phone.

I also called my dealership to confirm they ordered ALL the parts. At first there was some confusion, but the sales manager confirmed they did the full procedure and confirmed that my fluid was below the limit and they ordered all the necessary parts beyond the gasket and nuts or whatever is the minimal fix.

So I got my truck back today which is a off road version so not on the recall and they replaced the gasket and put a crap load of sealant on it. Is this what yours are looking like after being "fixed"?

    See build page.
Mine is still pending repairs but I'm almost 100% sure that the official fix did not include smothering of sealant. I know the fix includes gasket (not sealant) replacement. So im curious for others who had repairs done to chime in.

I know that is what I was think too. This can't be right. I picked the truck up after the service manager was gone for the day so I will have to call tomorrow.

So my question is how do I question the job that was done when I am not sure whether they are suppose to use the sealant? I certainly will talk about the mess they made and the concern about it getting inside but how should of the job been done?

Its on bolts to see if they ever are removed. I agree it could have been smoothed a little better where sealant is squeezed out. But, at least it is not over tightened an gasket is hanging out. Looks ok too me.

Mine is an OR and they replaced my gasket on 5/18 and re-torqued to spec, under warranty. This is how it looks today. No more weeping between the nuts, but is that weeping I see, from the nuts?? 94FE468C-A3BA-4960-B827-707060E57591.jpg 0492E1BD-0BA1-423A-B7D8-193ACB52B10C.jpg 6EBD0756-85ED-4A27-9484-2E623F54B3C8.jpg 25B13B8C-AF08-48C3-A5BF-CEE26CA886C5.jpg

looks like the high school kid that repaired your truck
in his automotive class ran out of gaskets and used sealant instead
i would take a pic and forward to corporate

Agree. At any rate, this axel looks to be at least 20yrs old, certainly doesn't look like new or quality for a 40k truck.

Completely unacceptable, I seriously doubt they replaced the gasket, this is total 100% hillbilly crap repair that won't work, it will lower the re-sale valve of your truck as it is not a repair but a cheap ass band-aid. Tell the service manager that it needs to be fixed properly immediately, or the pics will got to Toyota Corp, and to the NHTSA. That will get his attention. Your rear end will leak again.

Your dealer threw RTV on the rear hoping you would leave and never come back, this in any circumstance is not a valid repair. I would seriously notify corporate and lket them know you are look at legal options.

Looks like it ...albeit not much. I'd probably clean it up and keep an eye on rate of return, if any.

That is totally unacceptable.. I am not a mechanic but that looks like a rig job. Looks like they did not have the parts so they used the old gasket probably or not at all and RTV those nuts look original as well. Should be new nuts and gasket. If mine looks like that....I will be on the news after I get done with anybody involved with that mess on my truck.
