Not looking to hard wire and run antenna wires etc. Just want a good handheld CB for close trail yacking etc to use a couple times a year if that. Any input would be great from actual people and not worrying about trusting Amazon reviews.

    Thanks!

Other thing if you want something close is the Family Radio Service handie talkie. Available at sporting good stores, Amazon etc. Works on UHF freqeuencies where the antenna is shorter and probably stronger than the longer one required by a CB radio. CB works on 27 MHz, and the FRS works around 450 MHz. Much smaller antenna for work inside a car.

I bought that one and it was awful for me. I could be directly behind someone and they couldn't hear me and they would be fuzzy.

This one has worked much better for me. I still use it with the FireStik I wired up and it's been good.

Ive heard the handheld ones suck. You can get one that is handheld, but can also add an external antenna. Pair that with a magnetic antenna you slap on your roof and you're good to go.

You are right it's different. What you need is to get everyone else on HAM. Lol

    Ditto.

My CB is useless unless I'm less than 1/4 mile from the other CB user. That's with a 3 foot Firestick.

My HAM will hit repeaters 50-60 miles away if I get line of sight to the mountain top it's on. And that will broadcast even further. Much more likely to get help if needed.
