Having owned a taco, 4 runner, and now an FJ (08), all I'll say is the FJ is way more capable off road than the others. You can't even say the interior is somewhat the same....it's not even close.
Heck no! I own both and can tell you that it's no where near the same.

Mine is bone stock but I love it, have a 3rd gen I use as a daily driver and will keep my FJ, know I'd regret selling it.

My son had a 2014 Quicksand with 22,000 mikes on it, he bought it for $35,000. It had minor visible damage from off-roading. When he traded it last month for a WRX they gave him $30,000. Roughly 86% of purchase with the damage.

What they need to do is bring the 70 series land cruiser to USA. Would make huge sales not only in the off-road demographic but utilitarian as well.

Why don't they? Is it an emissions thing?

My original dealer called me last week asking if I would be willing to sell my '14 back to them for a very aggressive price. Then proceeded to tell me they would give me ridiculous deal on a new 4Runner (which I love). I said, "no thank you, I'm keeping it." He replied, "Thanks for answering, your the fifth person today with the same answer. No one wants to give theirs up." Apparently, they have a handful of customers consistently looking FJs and can't find them.

But we'll still have our awesome FJs that aren't the new ones.

I bet I've seen 5 of these today. From totally stock to really modded. I'd love to find the Episode of Top Gear (US) where Rutledge drives one in the challenge.

I love my manual 2007. It's a great rig. The only issue I have had was a wheel bearing at 80,000 miles. It now has 93,000 miles.

Not sure if this was mentioned but Japan is still producing the FJ. Just not for sale in the U.S. where I assume many of us are located.

Toyota has announced a final edition version, so the writing is on the wall.

As far as the FJ Cruiser being limited, it really didn't sell all that well after the first 3 years, compared to 4Runner, RAV4, Tacoma.

The belief was emissions and safety (they only just got airbags in 2016), but the cost and truly utilitarian aspect don't position it well in the U.S. Imagine Ford trying to sell a regular cab F350 with a bench seat and vinyl floor for $60,000. AFAIK the current 70 series meets European safety and emissions rules, so presumably it could meet US DOT and EPA rules without a lot of work. It's not worth it for the potential sales.

I just clocked 150k for miles on mine. I am now going to go with a different daily driver and start to modify a little more....it's paid for....why sell it or turn it in when the next car would probably be a dime a dozen.

I had a 2007 for a couple of years and loved it. Only drawback, very limited cargo space.
