It is very close to a year since Dean Finocchiaro's best friend Bobby died ... https://patch.com/pennsylvania/levi...led-motorcycle-crash-died-doing-what-he-loved

I didn't know any of the kids, personally, but I do know Bobby's mother as she is my Sister's best friend. She is really losing her shit right now, again ... understandably. Dean was like a son to her. It is really sad to see people go through so much loss.

More fucked up news. Couldn't comment initially. But its public now.

Cosmo admitted to two more murders.

So that makes the count 6.

The more fucked up part is his cousins are now getting death threats. Young kids who aren't even teens yet.

It is really sad for the families .

The fact it is in our back yard brings it close to home.

This might be the best place to ask this question. I went to the rental center and got a log splitter -- a big log splitter -- and when we hooked it up to the hitch the back of the truck dropped low enough that they couldn't remove the parking post. It didn't look to me as though the back of the truck was all that low, but there we were. I'm thinking of the following solutions, what do you suggest?
    • Different hitch with less drop (the one I have doesn't drop much at all)
    • Air bags
    • Springs - which ones?

You can change the insert to one that lifts the ball Higher

Unless your going to be Towing all the time this would be cheaper .

What you have now a picture would help

take the one you got now and remove the ball and flip the hitch and put the ball back on.
If this is not a frequent rental. If you do it all the time, buy another ball and hitch set up.

I'm disappointed. I was sure you were all going to tell me I needed a 3" lift and 35's. ;-)

Here's the hitch. We had it on one of our long-gone Jeep Cherokees. I think it is a 2" drop. Turning it over doesn't make a lot of sense to me, so maybe I should get one with less drop or a straight bar with no drop?

the proper way to do it is,set trailer on level ground, and level trailer so it is horizontal (not tilted forward or backward)measure the height and then set your truck on level ground and measure to the center point of your hitch, and buy hitch and ball that keeps trailer sitting level.
That being said,How often to rent said log splitter would determine the justification to purchase another hitch insert.
I myself have at least a dozen. never have to switch a ball for any of the trailers or trucks in which they are hooked to.
    Yard sales are your friend.

    This^^^

Unless you trailer alot, I wouldn't worry too much. As long as the ball is the correct size you're probably ok around town, occasionally.

Thanks. I'll probably spring for another hitch insert and ball. And start checking the yard sales. We had an enormous oak cut down last winter and I've been using this beast to split with since the pieces are still 2 or 3 feet across even after hand splitting them down to a human-moveable size. I probably only need it one or two more times, but it sounds like it makes sense to have some options for towing.
