I believe the Load Warrior will only fit with the extension. I have a Mega Warrior and mine will also only fit with an extension, however that is way too big for a Tacoma

The gap is caused by the front tab of the mounting plate not being low enough. I was warned about this BEFORE the install, and got that part right. HOWEVER, I did not get the bolts PERFECT (cross-threaded one), and got wet seatbelts. By the time I swallowed my pride and took it to the dealer, the whole headliner had a sheet of water threatening to short out the air bags, etc. I had them dry it out for three days and reinstall the damned rack, and it has been perfect. You can do it yourself, but the install and bolt threading must be perfect! Wet seat belts are an early sign of IMPENDING PROBLEMS!

I pushed down the forward bracket tabs until they were almost touching the bottom of the ditch before installing the actual rack. Even then, I still have a slight gap at the highest point of the arc in the rack where it does not sit flush on the roof. No amount of adjustment or even pounding would let it sit flat. Perhaps taking off the yellow push pins would work. It is this way, equally, on both sides.

    Any suggestions?

I installed myself this weekend on a 2017. First of all, it was a real pain in the ass to install. I had a difficult time with the either front or rear bolts not lining up once the opposite end were in. Very odd seeing as this rack is OEM. Outside of that, I'm not exactly happy about the play in the cross bars. With my kayak rack attached they have an awful lot of play moving back and forth. Almost to the point of me feeling constantly unsafe with kayak on top. Anyone else have this issue? Am I just paranoid?

There should be no play in the crossbars, do you have them locked in correctly on the non pivot side, they kind of pop into a lock position as I recall.

Put a set of OEM Racks on my Tacoma. Used the washers and used marine grade sealant. No Problems to date.

    Nothing... yet
Chalk up on more with a leaking roof due to the rack. Installed it myself but one of the screws or gasket washers on the drivers side is leaking. I now have a mildew smelling seat belt on truck that's a month old... FML
