San Diego BS Thread.

Anyone know of any self-storage places that allow you to use your unit as a garage/workshop? I'm moving out of my rental townhome at the end of August (will probably stay with parents for a few weeks to a month afterward), which I'm paying $2,240 for (not including utilities). I'd love to rent an actual house with a driveway (to wrench on the truck) and backyard (for my 2 dogs) for the same price but they're pretty hard to come by in my desired area. So that leaves me with the option of downsizing to a smaller rental at around $1,500 a month and then also renting out a storage unit for $300-400 (15x20 preferred).

Edit: I'm primarily looking in the Mira Mesa, PQ, Poway, and Scripps areas -- basically anything near the 56/15 intersecting freeways.

If you have military buddies check with them to see if they can get you and your truck into MCAS Miramar to use the auto shop there. From what my brother in law told me that place is tended to by laid back Filipino uncles and they'll loan out tools for you to use. They even have a lift there too. It's ideal for projects that will take a couple of hours to do.

 

The only thing I could rely on my Freight Liner was the brakes, but not no mo! Air Brakes took a shit!

 

My uncle had the brakes go out on his dump truck (the big ass ones) while pulling a tandem axle trailer with a bobcat on it. Took out about 8 cars, a street signal and a transformer box and he was only doing about 30mph. You're lucky you didn't smash into a lot of stuff. I'm assuming yours is an auto so you can't really down shift like my uncle.

Glad you're alright G. That's guaranteed to generate some pucker factor! Is Freightliner replacing your seat or do you need a proctologist? Edit: I meant to add the obvious fact that there isn't a flat friggin road out here.

 

I've had this happen before twice when I was on a Tractor Trailor delivering for Miller and Coors so from the experience I knew I was alright as long The PSI held up! Made it back to the mechanics before I ran out of air and maybe locked up on the road! Taking Fury back out on the road tomorrow!

I know there are a few guys going to camp and fish at Idyllwild this weekend. They are also planning to do a couple of trail runs but all pretty much fire roads so may be a bit too tame for your beast.

 

Let me know if you find out anything. Looking to get out and hit some trails as well. Think there were a few heads from the OC thread talking about running Santa Rosa Truck Trail.
