Hey All. New to the community. Just checking out everyone's tacos. Had mine about 2 months, put a couple thousand miles on it already here in CA. Taken up to trails in Shaver Lake and to the Oceano Dunes. Pretty fun truck!

Your truck looks awesome, man. What lift/wheels/tires did you put on it? I am looking to pick up a new '18 Tacoma in the next few months and am going for a similar look as yours.

Jktkz5, I really like the 6 inch lift look on these new Tacomas with some large MT tires (I'm looking at 35's). I am building a daily driver (a.k.a. "mall crawler" around here) that looks mean as hell but can also easily handle occasional medium-level offroading. I have had well over a year to read and think about it.

Just be forewarned that this site has a certain culture and from lurking and researching here a long time I noticed that if you don't have a 2.5 -3 inch lift with certain popular coilover brands then your rig is generally ridiculed, especially drop bracket 4-6" lifts. Just ignore the haters and do what you like to meet your truck needs while respecting others.

By the way, how was it rolling that bad-boy out on the beach and dunes at Oceano? I would love to take my truck up there.

Hope you enjoy your new truck!

I totally agree...i've seen the haters on the site too. That's totally OK. It's their preference and money as well as it is mine/yours preference too!
I've already done some pretty good trails with this 6" lift that I'd put up directly against alot of these guys with their 3" lifts.
Truth is...when I got the 6" lift...it came back a bit taller than I really wanted...but, lift was already installed and money was paid. I have to live with it and I'm learning to appreciate it more and more.
I've checked around and if I were to do it again...I would probably have the 4" BDS lift installed instead of this 6" lift. But...again...they are both pretty close. This lift settled about 1" since I had it installed and I think it probably sits about 5" higher instead of 6" in the end. My front fender (above the wheel) sits just a smidge under 42" from the ground.

The dunes were awesome. Took it all the way through the dunes...had no issues at all!

Yea man, it's funny you mention the height initially being a bit more than you wanted because I feel the same way. I was initially looking for an RCD 4.5" lift for the 3rd Gen Tacoma but for some reason they are not making them for this new model...at least yet. So I saw that BDS has a 4" and 6" lift. I really prefer to be at about 4.5" to 5" of lift but the 6 inch BDS has one model with custom Fox coilovers. It's supposed to ride wayyyy better than the 4" and much better than stock. So I figured I can just get that and either adjust it slightly down to 5" height, which BDS said you can do with no issues, or leave it at 6" and get used to it. Decisions, decisions.

At least with the 6" I can adjust it down to 5" but I can't adjust the 4" lift up to 5" or 6", I think. Can one even get quality aftermarket coilovers for the 4 inch BDS lift??

Also, I read from others that if you go with 4" you will eventually just wish you went 6" from the beginning, lol. Hmmm. Anyway, yesterday I was cruising around and spotted a new Tacoma with a 6 inch lift or more and 35's and it looked AWESOME. So I think I might regret it if I go 2.5, 3, or maybe even 4. :notsure:
