After a failed trip to my local Autozone to pick up a new Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor, I begun doing some research, which like usual led to heavier research than I initially intended on doing so. This thread is purely for informative purposes on all the different options available from the different AFR sensor manufacturers which utilize the Bosch LSU 4.9 style technology and connector.

I have been having issues with my 4.9 sensor lately and will be swapping out to a Denso because in the past I have replaced 2 4.2 style sensors, and now I will be on my 2nd 4.9 sensor, so I'm done with Bosch. If you would like to swap yours out to a different manufacturer because you are having issues, I have supplied all the different part numbers available that I am aware of which should work with your AFR gauge. Longevity of listed sensors may vary.

    Denso:
    - 234-5102
    - 234-5116
    - 234-5119
    - 234-5125
    - 234-5136
    - 234-5137 (38.66 long)
    - 234-5138
    - 234-5139

    NTK (made by NGK):
    - 24315 (39.3" long)
    - 24323 (35.5" long)
    - 24324 (33.5" long)
    - 24325 (15.8" long)
    - 24328 (29.5" long)
    - 24326 (28.5" long)
    - 24329 (14.8" long)
    - 24330 (21.8" long)
    - 24333 (41.5" long)

AC Delco (high possibility exists that they are made by Denso):
    - 213-3934
    - 213-3936

Again, bear in mind, longevity will and may vary, but these are all the part numbers on record which are cross compatible with the original style Bosch LSU 4.9 style type AFR sensor/ connector. The prices vary WILDLY I found between all of the different part numbers, as does wiring length, but if you want the cheapest priced one, you will find the 234-5116 on Amazon for $75.42 right now. The one I chose for myself was the Denso 234-5137, as the wiring appears to be much shorter.

Just as a follow up update to this thread I received the sensor today (234-5137 Denso) and the plug is the perfect shape of the old Bosch 4.9 sensor. Wiring is a few inches shorter, which is actually good because then there is less need to zip tie excess. Upon inspection I noticed a small little leg inside of the plug itself that would hinder me from installing it into the AEM connector for the gauge. I took a small screwdriver (you may use needle nose pliers if they are fine point enough to fit) and carefully massaged the leg back and forth until I fatigued the plastic to break it off at the base. Just watch the pin by it otherwise you could bend it out of place and will have to bend it back. After doing that the sensor plugged in perfectly and locked into place just like original.

If you receive a sensor like this, you may find the same thing in your plug or not but at least you know what to do now. This update is to make you aware, and to confirm YES it WILL WORK fine with the AEM gauge. I now am able to actively monitor Air Fuel Ratios once again, and maybe it is just me, but the sensor seems to work BETTER than the old Bosch 4.9 ever did.

You get a 1 year warranty at AutoZone if you use one of the above mentioned sensors. Just exchange it annually, which is actually about as long as they last anyway in a turbo application.

Still working as amazingly as it did from say one. Bosch sensors are horrible and Japanese cars tend to break them for some reason. This Denso sensor has been great to me.

Are all the sensor plugs the same for all guages. I thought I read somewhere that Innovate has special plugs on theirs to keep you buying their overpriced Bosch sensor? I mean if they are all "about" the same and all I need to do is knock off a tab I am definitely getting a Denso sensor. Do you happen to have any pictures of your sensor plug, either sensor or guage end for you AEM?

Doing plug research over the next few days. Gotta get through month end paperwork and long hours first. But I need to find an answer to if my AFR's are correct or not. If they are I need to stay out of boost before I end up washing my cylinders and having to put a motor in my truck. But why not, I just did a transmission and 4.88's and front ARB. Why not a new motor too. LOL But I can't make myself cut my losses and just get a Tundra. Too much money into this truck and I did the same thing with my '98 Taco.

That is in reference to the earlier question about A/F sensor plugs. I am going to do some research to see if I can find a Denso sensor that will plug into the Innovate guage. So the real question is are the plugs the same for all the guages or does the AEM have one plug while the Innovate has a different plug. The OP lists lots of sensors, and he said what one he used with his AEM. I need to know if they will work with my Innovate MTX.

I think I am going to order the NTK 24324 sensor. Need to measure and see what I have for length now as it is about 6" short of being convenient to plug in and unplug to calibrate the gauge. Awful zone has it for $116. And one thing I have found that I don't care for is that the dense numbers never tell you the length of the wire. And they seem to cross with 2 or 3 other NTK numbers that all have different length wire so I am not sure which one is the actual cross and has the same length wire as the Denso. But the NTK 24324 has 33.5" of wire and crosses to many of the Denso numbers. And for some reason, the longer the wire, the less my cost seems to be. The most expensive one I have found has a 15" wire and the least expensive is 57" of wires. I am going to go with a longer wire so the plug isn't right at the firewall and hard to get to. I have no problem having the plug in the engine bay where it is easy to get to.

I cannot say one way or another if the Innovate plugs are special as I only ever used an MTX with a LSU 4.2 design plug, but I'll tell you right now, the AEM ones can use universal AFR sensors as long as the plugs are the same. In this case, the one I got had a small tang inside of the plug on the sensor that needed breaking off, easy to remove with a little screwdriver or tiny needle nose pliers.

I do not have a picture of the plug but I am sure I can get one in time. Have you already bought an AFR sensor? Gotta tag me in your posts or quote me if you want me to reply back, otherwise I don't always get notices that you have posted with a question for me. :)

@12TRDTacoma All good on the response time. I get slightly backed up with work and the personal truck projects get put off to the side. As for the AFR sensor. I am about 98% that any of the sensors you listed will work also. I have not ordered it yet as all of my vendors seem to be higher priced that Amazon. Go figure. So I am really trying to decide if I should go with the Denso that has had great success or try a NTK. Also I am debating on whether or not I should order a bung extension. I really think I am just cooking the shit out of them. But then again, when the Ucon shows up and I do all of this that should end too. I don't want to run a bung extension if I don't have too. Just in case it were to affect the readings.

Run a bung extension. Better safe than sorry.

NTK Are oxygen sensors made by NGK. I cannot say one way or another that it will be compatible or work well with the system though.

Installed a denso 234-5116 on my innovate this morning. Lasted a solid 10 minutes before it started jumping like crazy. Then 20 minutes and it went E8. Just like the 3 Bosch sensors have. But I at least got a few weeks out of the Bosch. So? Bad guage and I have 4 sensors that will work with the AEM or Tanabe guage? Cause this is really pissing me off. Lol

You have a bad gauge which is exactly why I trashed my old Innovate AFR gauge. I was getting the same code. Those things are high failure rate junk. Get an AEM gauge, they are solid and imagine this THEY ACTUALLY PERFORM the function they were built to do. What a concept huh?! Hahaha.

Use the Denso AFR sensor in conjunction with the AEM gauge. I promise you'll be happy.

Pretty sure the Denso sensors won't work with the Innovate MTX guage. Tried to re calibrate the Denso about 10 times while in MT. Never worked, always times out and goes to E8. So I just unplugged it. Got home and plugged in the Bosch and it calibrated right away. No matter, going to order a AEM x-series.

Great thread, about to use this reference guide to pull the trigger on some denso sensors for my AFR gauges.

Curious how everyone else was able to tell that their bosch 4.9 sensors were bad? my gauges seem to be reading differently than what my UCon shows the stock sensors are at so i think my 4.9s are toast

There would be an error message or code number displayed on your gauge. For some, (myself included) the sensor is not limited to that and can begin to start taking highly highly erratic readings which will be all over the place in the rich to lean spectrum. That was my indicator that the sensor was craptastic.

That and Bosch has a history of producing pure garbage sensors. Most of the local parts vendors and warehouses in my area refuse to carry and will not sell you a Bosch oxygen sensor because the defective/ return rate on them are so astronomically high that all parties involved in the sale and usage of the sensor typically lose nothing but time and money.

So has anyone confirmed if one of these replacements will work an Innovative gauge?
