Hello! I was wondering if someone could help me out and tell me what their experience is with 285 on their 3rd gen. Mpg difference? Gear hunting? Loss of power... Ext?
Planning on throwing some on mine. I live in a flat area and don't tow much so I'm hoping I won't notice much of a difference. Thanks!!!

are you installing primarily for looks?

    Edit: sorry, loaded question lol

Anyway, I'm assuming it's for a 17 inch wheel because you have a Sport model.

Whatever size you end up with, all the factors you listed will be affected. The 285/75/17 is essentially a 34+ tire. More cutting will be needed to make these fit plus spacers if you still have the stock wheels.

    For looks 285/75 ... for practicality, 285/70.

So I can expect gear hunting even on flat with the 285/70r17?

Truck feels a little bit slower but nothing huge. I don't really pay attention to mpg so I cant really speak on that. No issues with gear hunting and truck drives fine. Its not a huge difference, go ahead and do it.

You'll lose 3MPG on average is my guess. A lot of guys regear to 4.88s because it sucks the power pretty badly and it costs about 2 grand to regear.

These are 255/85 16s. Yes it is lifted, they did fit prior to the Headstrong kit. The only rub was the hard mud flaps. I used a torch and shaped them so the wouldn't touch at full crank.FullSizeRender.jpg

I was surprised at how similarly my truck felt with 285's. I could barely tell a difference.
My truck on average use to read 12.5 litres per 100km (18.8mpg). Now its around 14litres per 100km, (16.8mpg). But the dash doesn't account for the ~6.8% greater tire diameter. So it's more so around 13litres per 100km (18.1mpg)
    Do it. IMG_0979.jpg

Its basically going to feel like you're always towing a small trailer behind the truck all the time. It definitely will impact shifting and "off the line" acceleration. Only way I would even consider is if I was going to regear it. Some guys are reporting up to 2 or 3 mpg lost just by running 3% larger tires 265/70/17s.

Been there done that in my younger years on many similar vehicles. Not something id do again like I said without regearing.
