No the update hadn't come out yet and I couldn't deal with the truck any longer so I took a $5k loss trading it in last July.
But Honestly I couldn't be more happy wth the 4Runner I replaced it with so it all worked out in the end

It's a hard pill to swallow but I don't blame you one bit for jumping ship. If I could get close to what you were able to do I'd probably trade mine as well.

I had the first update for not getting out of 4th on cruise control. I took a longer trip the other day and noticed hunting (I hadn't really been out of town for a long time). I was thinking about getting REV-1 done but if it didn't change anything I wasn't going to bother. Thanks for the reply.

The ShiftSense Pro is $175 and works wonders. We shouldn't need it, but it's Toyotas new thing I guess.

It sure beats a $5k loss on the truck.

Or even better, 765 for a full tune that gives you more power, better shift points and better throttle control/sensitivity.

Seems like just polishing a turd really! Might help shifting but not going to help mpg at all.

It won't fix the hunting on uphill grades. Mine actually doesn't hunt in cruise control.. but it hunts as it always has in D, so in the mountains I'm in cruise when possible, otherwise I'm in S-mode. I'm used to it now. Just bothers the shit out of me that they can't fix it. It works fine in cruise control with no hunting. Why can't they fucking translate that to D!

I have 7500 miles on mine and its been doing that crazy shifting for quite awhile, went to the dealer and am waiting to hear about a software update to address the issue, otherwise I love this truck.

Yes. Mine was a 2017 double cab bought in November '16. Get the Rev 1 transmission TSB update checked/performed by the dealer as your first step - if you're still unhappy with the way it shifts on you, the options in this thread (ShiftSense Pro - inexpensive way to fix the shift points to be more natural for the power band; OrangeVirus Tune addresses much of the shifting but also fixes throttle response lags, timing, intake/exhaust, and lots of other things that make the truck much much more fun to drive).

We now have options. When I bought mine last Nov we didn't....

At second oil change (10K miles) - truck became a different beast. Felt like a new tranny was installed. Now, I've drive thru the mountains 4 times and i occasionally use 'S' to shift but mostly to engine brake down grade. She mostly downshifts and holds a reasonable gear for going up. Totally different than when I first got the truck. I HATED it. MPG's went up quite a bit too - still shitty but mucho better.

Just bought a low mileage 2016 Tacoma. I see why they traded it in. First, as other reviews have pointed out, the optimized shifts of automatic transmission make the V6 feel sluggish at times. Trans will not stay in 6th gear with even the slightest incline and no load in the bed. It always seems to be dropping down a gear or two, making the engine rev like it's in a passing gear. Acceleration getting on the freeway is sluggish unless you hammer it. Why should I have to find the hidden ECT button for extra power when passing. WTF!! Has anyone had any luck with a dealer fix. I'm about to peddle this dog.

No dealer fix. Tune from OVTune is the fix, and worth every penny. Much cheaper than the trade in loss.

Part of why I bought a Certified Used from the dealer was the 100K warranty, I think I will be voiding the factory warranty if I plug in aftermarket drivetrain managemaent compontents. Is this logic correct? Toyota need to step up and fix this!

Toyota cannot presently detect tune, and you can flash to stock map at anytime. Toyota should step up to fix it but they aren't. This is your definitive solution.
